Very Underwhelming

First, the good points. Daniel Radcliffe and Ciarán Hinds did good acting jobs.
The bad points: Everything else!... Plot used many times in old 50's B-Movies. "Evil spirit kills kids". The cinematography was passable. The special effects were terrible and extremely lack luster. The story was weak. The ending sucked. And the scary parts weren't scary.. the "scares" were actually of the startling kind and tricks.. not true scare that comes from a great story. See this movie at the 2nd run theaters. Or better yet, wait for the DVD or see on netflix. It's a perfect movie for late night TV.
Final comment. I simply can not believe that Daniel Radcliffe chose this movie as his first movie after the Potter series. You would think he could have done MUCH better. Did he owe a debt he had to repay? Did he lose a bet? It certainly felt like there had to be a reason other than he really wanted the part!
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Too bad I am no longer 13 yrs old.. I may have liked it, but as an adult. I found the overall story to be weak, the acting to be sub-par and the graphics to be merely acceptable. I was hoping for and expected much much more. I do not recommend this movie for women, people with a brain, someone expecting good acting, someone who appreciates a good story line, someone looking for adventure. It's great for everyone else IF and only if they see it on Netflicks or at a 2nd run discount theater.

Fun.. exactly as expected, kids enjoy

This movie was very pleasant to watch and is entertaining. It had no real fantastic moments.. and no real bad moments either. The kids will love it. The adults will enjoy it. A little body function humor (the school yard kind), If you pay premium price you won't feel ripped off. But I would wait for second run theater showings.. In other words.. a great movie for the discount theater crowd with kids.

My Family loved the movie

My entire family loved this movie. Arrive early for good seats. We saw 3D and felt it was worth the price, but if you can only see in 2d, don't worry, see it anyway.
How do I rate this movie?.. not quite as good as Avatar, but MUCH better than New Moon.

Although this movie DID have some good moments... over-all, I was disappointed.
This is another example of great story, bad movie. It is as if the director couldn't decide if this movie was for adults or kids, so the adults are left feeling like they are watching some sort of dark disney movie gone wrong, and the kids see too much graphic violence.
Go see this one at the dollar theater with your 14 year old son, He would LOVE it.
