Robert Pattinson played an unforgettable role. Straightforward melancholy is ripped apart; there is an amazing spectrum of responses to many unpredictable scenes. He explores all of the stereotypes of a grieving young adult with precision, humor, and fury. The stereotypes are discarded; the audience feels the truth, and begins to understand what creates his kind of self-righteousness and bitter smiles. All of the drama, especially the gentle relationship with his little sister, startled me. Unlike other films that follow family entanglements, this one was completely on-key throughout. I think that the preview probably led moviegoers to believe that it would be a mediocre film; don't live under that impression!
