Probably the best Star Trek Movie yet, excepting maybe the Wrath of Khan. Admittedly, this is not saying a lot. A solid and large cast, which is always better than trying to hang the movie on 1 or 2 actors. Clever how they manage to keep it open for a whole new series of sequels. Not sure that they achieved the Kirk-Spock-McCoy dynamic of the original, but they sure tried hard. MORAL: If you want to be invited back for the movie, don't get fat.
Nothing sublte about this movie. If you're looking for action sequences and shoot-em-up's, there have been much better. If your looking for a who-dun-it challenge, this movie drops way too many hints.
Took my daughter, 13 and 16, plus my big Sister (60). They all enjoyed it. We had just listened to the book on CD on a family trip, and it was helpful to let go of the book and not compare directly, but the movie seemed to do well on its own. More director's need to realize that good scenery and actors are better than CGI.
