Bright Star is the story of Fanny Brawne and her passionate but doomed love for poet John Keats. The story reveals how the attachment effected Fanny and her family in a beautifully realized and evocative recreation of time, place and manners. Keats himself becomes almost an abstract ideal to the devoted girl as he removes himself from her for long periods out of a sense of conscience, due to his impoverished circumstances and an inability to provide for her, and a fear of being consumed by her.
