It got better, I guess

I read the books when they first came out and have to say that I was sad after seeing the movie. The beginning of the movie was horrible. I couldn't help but laugh at some of the attempts at "scathing looks" and glittering hotties. The initial "courtship" was rushed, and so many things were added that ticked me off. A fieldtrip? Really? There was enough going on in the book that a fieldtrip was not needed. I understand that they had to make it more mainstream for general audiences, but I feel like they went for a campy tone rather than be truer to the book. The movie got better for me after the baseball game, and I liked it from there on. I wish they hadn't added the weird sub-plot with the Villains though.
No, I do not recommend this movie.
