This was a fun production, and especially good, I think, for children. The text has (not very precisely) been translated into English, the sets are amazing (if a bit too Broadway for my taste), the singing good, and there's a lot of amusing talking in between the singing. And Papgeno is fun to watch, and acts the role well.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

This was a film from 2007, when they hadn't added all the features that currently go into Live in HD productions: no introductory spiel, no attempt to explain the plot beforehand, and most importantly, no intermission. All of this made me particularly appreciate the current Live in HD screenings. But the opera itself was stunning. Lovely production, good acting and marvelous singing.
This was an excellent production, in which Angela Gheorghiu sang heroically in spite of a bad cold. Unfortunately, the film of the production has severe sound problems, making it difficult to hear the singers for a lengthy period, and very difficult to hear the interviews in the breaks. There were also assorted other non-opera noises, including a very loud beep that hurt my ears. The sound came back after the long intermission (following a short period when all sound went out), but many people had left by then. So I would recommend it, but with considerable reservations.
Note: I've been to two other Met In HD productions, which were delightful, so I don't think that these sound problems are usual.
