This movie went back to the original feel, no "Hasta la vista baby" or "John, now I know why you cry", my God, I watched T2 again before going to Salvation and just about puked. I love the Termintor series but 2 and 3 went for the family audience and I think Arnold wanted to stretch his acting muscles and wanted to be liked, they really forgot what terminators are supposed to be, machines. Salvation was back to the gritty feel, war, survival and termination. Sam Worthington did a great job, Christian Bale did a good job and the supporting cast was good as well. Overall I'd give this movie a "B" and if you, like me, think that the original is the best of the first three and that 2 & 3 were too soft, then this movie is what you need.
I was disappointed in this movie, expected some really big laughs and got a few small ones, made me wish I'd gone half-lit. To me this is a very middle-of-the-road effort, not nearly as good as "Kung Fu Panda" any Pixar movie thus far or the first two Shrek movies, but better than dreadful outings like "Igor" or "Happily Never After". I'd put it in the same category as "Shrek 3". My 4 year old and twin 7 year old boys liked it though so it wasn't all bad. Good voice cast and animation, if they'd invested as much into the writing it could've been great. Too bad.
Just wanted him to take a nap. I like Neeson, don't get me wrong, but he is just looking too old to do this, at 56 he's approaching grandfather status. Have Deniro whip himself into shape and make him the grandfather tracking down the bad guys, that would've been sweet. Father-wise I'd say an actor in his mid 40s, like Johnny Depp or Russell Crowe would've been a better choice but I know they are popular and busy. Still a good movie, not believable but it's not a documentary, purely entertaining. I would love to have the skills his character has. Famke Janssen made a great ex-wife, very icy and easy to dislike. Get some popcorn and Mike and Ikes and enjoy.
Maybe it's a cultural difference thing but this movie seemed to lag and drag. The plot was actually very simplistic, kind of a mixture of "Oliver", "The Quiz Show" and "West Side Story" set in India. Freida Pinto is gorgeous, no doubt, and the actors were good but how did this movie win 7 oscars? Maybe worth one or two but the academy lost some credibility with me on this one. Mostly depressing movie with a nice little happy ending, not terrrible but not great, hovering somewhere inbetween. The dancing at the end was good.
First off, I am a Nicolas Cage fan, so maybe I'm biased but this was a good movie. Besides Cage I'd say the cast was decent, noone else stood out to me. The ending wasn't something I would've picked but was still good. The CG was really good, the plane crash for example was very impressive. I will be reading up on certain solar activities.
Cena is adequate, not alot of personality, but he's got the build and the looks for the part. The villain was pretty weak, kind of reminds me of Edward Norton with better hair and less talent. My 7 year old sons liked the movie more than I did, but they are wrestling fans. "The Marine" was a better movie for Cena but it had Robert Patrick as the villain which made a difference. Good action sequences, mediocre script, paint-by-numbers formula. I personally would pick this movie as a dvd rental in a couple months. Not bad, not great, kind of "Eh".
Speaking as someone who transplanted to Florida and is at least 1,300 miles from all my good friends I could relate to Paul Rudd's character: it is tough to make new male friends this late in life without coming off as needy, gay or having an ulterior motive. The cast is familiar, seen them in "Forgetting Sarah Marshall", "Knocked Up", "40 Year Old Virgin", "Superbad" and they do not disappoint. And it's always good to see Lou Ferrigno, the man is still massive. And Jaime Pressly, still smokin hot.
