Most people going to see this movie have read the books and they know how the story ends, myself included. That said, the filmmakers managed to create a movie that created a sense of suspense and uncertainty that I wasn't expecting. There are certainly a couple of concepts that didn't translate well to the screen, but all in all, it's a great flick for those of us who have been waiting a long time to see it.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Unlike many people who anticipated "The Last Airbender," I was not familiar with the animated series and had no preconceived notion about the characters or plot. I was just interested in seeing what appeared to be an exciting fantasy adventure on the big screen.
The effects and imagery were definitely fantastic, and much of the film was visually stunning! The movie itself was poorly written. The acting was no better than the writing--a major disappointment, given appearances by Dev Patel and Jackson Rathbone. I want to think that if the material had been better, their performances also would have been better.
I had seen many Airbender fans completely trash the movie on TV. I am only glad that I didn't have their expectations, which clearly went unmet by this film. For me, the time I spent in the theater seeing this movie was not a deep investment in a fandom that was clearly ignored, it was just an evening out with my husband. For me, it was o.k. and unlike the major fans, I didn't walk away feeling completely robbed.
If you are a fan of the Twilight Saga, Eclipse does not disappoint. This movie captures the action and danger of the book and continues to draw out the turmoil of Bella's relationship with Jacob and ultimate choice to stay with Edward. Each movie seems to be better than the last. Looking forward to Breaking Dawn (parts one and two).
