I've read the twilight books a bunch of times, because I'm a little too obessed, and I was really excited when I saw it. They kept it relatively true to the book, while adding somethings that fit well. It was really wonderful. Although, i have no idea what someone who never read the books would think.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
