Movies nowadays you cant expect much from the storylines. With that said, this movie was pretty decent. I actually yawned in the latest Jason horror flick, but this movie I admit I jumped several times and got a little edgy. Emotions like that is worth the money. You have to put yourself in the shoes of the characters to appreciate the events. Quad was okay, but they could used a better person. Quad is Quad and he overacts most times.
The movie caught my interest with the sexy shower seen in the first 5 minutes. Only then you realize that this movie is not going to make any sense. There is no way on this or any planet would a marshall be that sexy and request a position in the antartic! (unless its a james bond flick) I suspect the book to be great, but the film editing and the story direction makes you wonder the education level of the directors. A trained cop being chased by the murderer doesnt pull out her weapon! Come on!
The movie was border line 2 stars, but with the arizona heat, the freezing snow looked pleasing, so it got an extra star for that.
Another reviewer used this word description, juvenile, and hit it right on. I grew up with GI Joe in the 80's so 20+ years later I expected a lot more but was very disappointed. There were so many holes in the movie and ridiculous scenes it was close to comical. I dont know how many times Duke could have killed the Cobra leader, instead, lets have a conversation! or when the two had the accelarator suits on, they can catch up to a car, but not two people on foot?
The movie also cut a lot of corners with poor cgi. I enjoyed the movie "Watchman" and probably expected the same level of cinematography.
To sum it up, its another armageddon movie but with a last minute happy ending, which was quite disappointing. The movie is sci fi, so there are a lot of holes, and the usual talk to oneself "why the heck did that character do that!" The movie started out decent, but midpoint it got annoying. The kids character was a rude boy who needed a back hand, the secretary of defense who supposedly spoke for the president and apparently the entire world, was a real bit*h. Most of the characters representing the USA and the army were all big jerks, to say it kindly. They took the notion of "shoot first, ask questions later", so it would have been great to see them all perish, which would have made it a better movie.
Yeah, this is definitely a more mature james bond. Most of the reviews are correct, but the ratings depend what you were wanting from it. This had better action and great camera angles, some good fight scenes (daniel craig did have some tight moves), and girls were superb. and yeah, exploding hotel was over the top. I grew up with roger moore as james bond and the really cool gadgets. I loved it as a kid, but now my kids today probably didnt appreciate this james bond as I did when I was a kid.
First, I strongly believe that along with movie ratings, there should be precautions that this is a first person camera type film - meaning the whole moving was shot through the eyes of the camera man. I survived Cloverfield, but this movie definitely gave me a serious headache. People started to walk out of the theatre half way through it. Apart from that, this low budget movie was pretty suspenseful, and there is nothing more scary than a crazed person trying to eat your flesh...yes, its one of those type movies.
You have to take teenage horror films for what it is and not expect big budget performances. For the typical teenage horror flic, it wasnt bad. The story was original, and it did accomplish one thing like many films like this, and that is dont go into the jungle ruins alone, I am staying with the tour guides!! 4 stars just for originality.
Stallone is a pure genius if he directed this movie. First and foremost, I am an all Action guy. In the past 20 years, I have seen my share of Stallone, Van Dam, Schwarzenegger, and Seagal movies, but none compared to the as* kicking Rambo did in this movie. The other reviews says it all as well. Again, PURE GENIUS!!
