Indy delivers, but was it too late?

Indian Jones for me ranks right up there with Star Wars as far as the special feeling I get when remembering movies from my childhood. I can still remember the lines we stood in to see them and how exhilerating it was to just be a the theater with everyone else waiting in anticipation to see Indy and Han Solo save the world, universe or whatever. When the new Star Wars movies were being talked about in the late 90's, that old feeling came back again. Only people from my generation were the ones that stood in lines ovenight to buy tickets. The movies, as it turned out were only pretty fair.
Lucas has waited nearly 20 years to make another Indiana Jones adventure. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull has all the action, adventure and humor of it's predecessors but not so much of the magic that I remember.
Don't get me wrong, it's a great movie. A bit of a "fantastical" ending that left me a bit confussed. But over-all, everything an Indiana Jones movie should be. Harrison Ford is still great as Indy. Marcus Brody and Henry Jones Senior have both passed away and make "cameos" but nothing significant. karen Allen returns as Marian from the original and still looks great. Shia LaBeouf seems to be everywhere these days and may be being groomed to be passed the "Indy torch" so to speak.
My point with all this is, every generation has it's heros. Indy was one of mine. Now at 35 years of age, a new Indiana Jones doesn't do for me what it once did. I still love watching the first three. Those movies really take me back. But this movie should have been made 15 years ago while it still had some magic. It promps me to think that these movies were not made for me or a new generation, but for some sort of self-indulgence on the part of Lucas ond Speilberg. They are not the "Kings" of cinema the way the once were and may now be reaching for something to hold on to.
Thank you gentlemen for my youth, but it's time for a new generation of dreamers and directors and it's time for a new generation of heros.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
