I was apprehensive about seeing this movie, but am now so glad I did. Coen Brothers are continuing to bring promise of new life to movie Westerns. John Wayne would have been proud of Jeff Bridges 'Rooster Cogburn' character. I predict Bridges will get an Academy nomination from this one. And Hailee Steinfeld, what a great, great choice for filling the Mattie Ross character. Loved all the cute, rather plain talking cliches'. It was also interesting watching Matt Damon play such a secondary role in a movie, and he seemed to handle it with character. I rate movies as to whether I (1) desire to see them again on rental, or (2) buy the DVD when it comes out for my collection. This movie will go into my DVD collection as one I will watch many more times and enjoy.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Typical Good Flick Coming From Eastwood

Seeing that this is a Clint Eastwood directed flick, I knew I wanted to see it. I wasn't disappointed, Clint's movies always seem to tie up loose ends and not leave a viewer wondering what happened.
Matt Damon's character was a bit weak, but he handled the weak character pretty well. Also, I initially found the flick struggling to gain momentum, (it was a bit long but Clint Eastwood admits he hates to edit his movies), but things seem to come together in the last 1/3 of the movie. It was a bit of a tear jerker as well.
I like to judge movies by whether I intend to buy the flick when it first comes out on DVD, wait until it discounts in stores, or not buy the DVD at all. In this case, I do plan to buy the DVD, but I think I'll wait until it discounts in stores.
Having seen the advertisements and read a few critics reviews, I didn't go into this movie expecting it to overwhelm me, and it didn't.. Reviews had mentioned the surprise ending, but as I saw DiCaprio's character regressing, I suspected the twist ... sorta like Nicole Kidman in The Visitors. DiCaprio showed that there are some parts he can't play, this being one of them. The movie's worth seeing, but wait 'till it comes out on rental, I say.
I'm sorry. I, for the life of me, can not see why this movie has been getting such high reviews. Maybe it is the special effects. I'll admit those were awesomely good. But the acting, the story, the way the movie made me an "observer" to a developing news story, just tripped me out. I'm a baby boomer, too, so maybe that had something to do with it. Particularly the first 20 minutes of the story was way, way too slow in developing a movie path. So, sorry everyone, I just can't give this one a "thumbs up".
I'm glad another Terminator movie came out, but this one left me a bit confused during the first 15-20 minutes, as I tried to sort out the charactors. Early in the movie I wasn't sure if I was watching Connor, Reese, or who exactly this Marcus was. And "who" was that little girl in the movie? She reminded me a bit of the kid that was in "Mad Max-Beyond Thunderdome". Anton Yelchin (Reese) needed to play a more "Type-A" personality. The special effects ... awesome but a bit too much on the motorcycles. I'll probably rent / or buy this one, but more because I have the other three. I gave this movie a 4-star, but more like a 31/2 star.
I've never seen a movie yet with Tom Hanks in it, that wasn't at least GOOD. This goes with Angels & Demons as well. Hanks is just such a superb actor. Was it as good as its predecessor ... humm, no, but so very few are! The movie was definitely entertaining, and even had a "who done it" twist at the end that neither my wife nor I had figured out ... good, I hate movies with predictable endings.
This movie caught me a bit off guard. I was expecting something more focused on an adventure movie with DiCaprio & Crowe, not about the real world of terrorism. I get more of that than I care to get in the news. The bombings were awesomely realistic. I could have waited for this one to come out on DVD or rental. I did notice that they left this movie open for a possible "Bourne" type sequel. If they do a sequel, I'll wait for its DVD for sure.
