Good but a tad scary

I used the word scary since my 7 yr old used it too. For me, it's the usual Disney villain scary, though because it deals with voodoo and the shadow man's "friends", I guess it provided enough for her not to sleep well that night. So, yes I would recommend it, with the reminder that each kid is different and to take that into consideration. Loved some of the characters (like Ray) and the "working hard" message that my girl got too!
Yes, I recommend this movie.
