I took my wife to see this and it was her first time ever watching a Star Trek episode or movie. She walked in with a very negative attitude and low expectations and she walked out satisfied. Myself as a Star Trek fan of 20 years, I loved it. I have to say this movie was not only the best Star Trek movie yet, but the best movie I have seen in a long time. Great acting, story and special effects. I recommend this movie to anyone, but especially to Star Trek fans.
I found this film to be everything I expected and more. The action keeps interest, the acting was flawless, the costumes and characters were believable and the story was captivating. For people who are tired of holocaust films I would still recommend this one because it does not exaggerate the suffering to win your sympathy. This one is very believable and enjoyable.
Clint Eastwood was perfect for this role. The film was believable, funny, emotional and intriguing. Many people were offended by the racial slurs but it was definitely realistic and I was not bothered by it. The acting was a little weak for two of the supporting actors but Clint Eastwood made up for it. Once again I was angered to see young children in the audience with their irresponsible parents... but what can you do?
I enjoyed most of this movie, however I don't like when I can see through a plot line to a director's hidden agenda. Anybody who has seen any of Spike Lee's work knows exactly what to expect from this film, and this time it was just a little too much. I found the dialogue to be overdramatic in many scenes and unfortunately it distracted me from enjoying the otherwise very touching story. Overall the movie had great potential and I found myself highly entertained through parts of it... but the last 30 min greatly disappointed me. I agree with some of the other reviews, the ending didn't deserve the tears that it was obviously (painfully obviously) striving to achieve.
