Get in a good mood, get in the car & get to the theatre ! A true sleeper hit , reminiscent of "The Full Monty" where the humor over-rides the vulgarity leaving you wanting more.
NOT just a guy flick. I went opening day with hubby & packed theatre of guys my son's age. Truth is.. I got more of the jokes than they did!
Kuddos to the director and cast (esp Zach Galifianakis) for making a mediocre script into a hilarious film - Wow
Hollywood must get a great discount on things that go "boom". Were their leftovers from Apollo 13? Helicopter scene with skylight & the parachute was Hollywood trite.
Shame on Brown for butchering his own great work. Would have been a GREAT movie if you left the riviting character plots & backstories. Guess that proves anyone will sell out their work if the price is right.
Went with someone who did not read the book and told him little, and he was often confused.
The superior acting skills saved sophmoric script, making it a comedic & watchable film. However the string of "guy jokes could have been sliced. Not all women have a string of bff's esp that annyoing. Hope the Producers paid well.. they saved the film.
Sorry, but they didn't win my sympathy. They are not what this movie portrayed. .
1) Ask any of us hard working Americans whose jobs have either been eliminated to outsourcing or work with those brought here from India. There is a very different backstory.
2) With so many people, they have the power (as so many countries including the USA have done) to exile the corrupt gov't.
3) Using the children to pull at our heartstrings to feel sorry for them didn't work either. No matter how poor a person is, there is simply no excuse to live in filth.
I've produced 2 Off-Broadway shows back in the '80's, this movie wouldn't make it to my stage.
The retail stores likely cringed with release, but the plot does say it all, ironically in a very funny manner. Filmed in NYC, it portrays that we are a nation caught up in "consumerism". The end was a bit "trite"
Best for me was the "space bag" scene.. who hasn't been there!
Great directing, GREAT job from the supporting cast. Parents pls bring your teens to see this movie. Will open their eyes and provoke much needed discussion.
Eastwood, excellent job "teaching" us about a world we know too much about but don't understand. Thanks for bringing to the forefront
Growing up in a house like that in NJ, a father who served in Korea, a carpenter & Irish/Polish, it hit home.
Only reason didn't get 5* is b/c end is predictable and the last scene is a throw-in.
What a mess! Any director knows that a movie that requires on-going narration ( by a boy you can't understand ) and sub-titles that move too fast in the beginning and drag at the end is a sure indication of too much information to captivate the audience.
Acting weak, scenery not captivating either, looks like the Grand Canyon.
Mix of genre's ( Western, Love Story, Fantasy, War) without comedy makes plot choppy but goes to the predictable but ridculous ending. Impossible that she would hear the harmonicia in the ocean amid the chaos on land.
Just when we were tryinto flee from the theatre, more sub-titles (ugh) I
You have better things to do with your time and money.
All characters very annyoing & egotistical. Couldn't chamption for them. Plot weak & big holes that director didn't address. Same boy meets girl, boy almost loses girl, boy gets girl back. Baby crying scenes too long, giving me a headache. Hope there's better help for the film industry if this is dubbed as the best comedy of the year! Don't waste your $20 on this, sorry we did.
Cheeky movie with old school script, bad directing (NY scenes out of sync). Product placement was terribly obvious. Plethora of talent doesn't help. Character development is all over the place, leaving us wondering who to champion for! Saw with 3 women all of different ages. Sorry, a miss on all counts.
Even if you don't like Allen, you'll love this brillant, thought provoking comedy. Hidden meanings and subliminal messages about relationships and society.. Some lines are priceless and the movie made me want to move to Barcelona.
