Very much a Tim Burton movie. If you appreciate the artistry that goes into this type of movie, and you want a good story then this is worth seeing (although I don't know about that for IMAX prices). We took our 11 year old grandson, he enjoyed it and didn't have any problems with it. He's not much of one for horror movies and in the past some have bothered him. It was obvious from the sounds around us that any child under 8 was having problems with the movie or didn't understand what was going on. Personally we wouldn't recommend it for any child under 10, but that's our "Senior" opinion.
Took 12 year old grandson to see Lorax. Personally I don't like the loss of brilliance the glasses cause, the 3D helped, but that didn't overide the inability to keep us focused on the movie. Would recommend for the under 10 crowd, a real yawner in some parts for the adults, good story overall but I won't be buying the DVD.
The wife and I saw this movie on Sunday the 10th. The characters and acting was very good and the portrayal of the racism and social mores was a lot like what I remember. This movie should be part of a black history course in middle or high school today. It would give them look into what part of our society was like back then. Kids today have no idea of what it was like, and what changes have taken place. Racism is not dead, after viewing this movie as you look around and see that while it has changed for the better; it still shows itself in subtle ways, and this movie points that direction. Peer pressure and special interest groups still try to run us and the country, but some are willing to risk all to do the right thing. On the technical side, Hollywood in typical fashion forgot that all cars are not in perfect condition, by the early 60’s cars from the early 50’s would have a few dents and scratches.
10 year old grandson enjoyed but not thrilled. Not one to wait for the DVD with any kind of excitement. Maybe when it drops to $3, it'll be good for travel entertainment.
Saw the original TRON when it came out, loved it, we saw this movie in IMax3D, good effects (not great, and got tired of SOS). Question the reality portion, how could you keep an arcade in that condition with glass windows and doors in a neighborhood obviously stripped of everything else with only a deadbolt lock?? Plot and dialog definitely could have been better. Wife slept through parts despite fantastic sound/music. Grandson (10) was fascinated with effects and sound, but didn't get the story line, he just liked the action. I was disappointed with characters who delivered lines, but IMHO weren't into really “Being” that character. I’d suggest to friends, wait for the Blue Ray to drop below $20 and then get it if they are real fans of the original TRON.
Paid extra $ for the wife & me to see a Sci-Fi Western in IMAX/3D. Got there 1 hour early 4 less than the best seats. Sold out for Sat. showing & at least 25% of the audience had seen it before. Nobody took a break, the action & effects were spellbinding, feeling of being part of the action was so intense we had to force ourselves to relax and catch our breath. Cameron not only created something to bring us TO the movies he's brought us INTO the movie so intensely that it became physical. At the end we asked how can that have been 3hrs? We had been transported through time & space, now we're back in reality. Reality isn't as much fun, we want to go back & anyone who spends the time & money will realize that it was a priceless experience.
