I had such high hopes for this movie, as I'm sure most people did. It's not that it was a bad movie, I'd probably still recommend it but with many reservations. My biggest problem with the movies (and this isn't a spoiler) is that 5 minutes into the movie the entire planet is being overrun by tens, maybe millions of zombies. Did they just evolve overnight? Life is going on as usual that morning, everyone is fine, and then out of nowhere, every country on earth is under attack. How could this have happened with no advance warning? The fact that this happened along with the fact that they never tell how people came to be like this pretty much ruined it for me. Sorry Brad, you didn't pull it off.
Ok, I have to agree with the rest of the sane people that reviewed this movie and didn't understand it. I too, was looking forward to it because I'm a big Joaquin Phoenix fan and it looked interesting. Joaquin is the only positive thing in this movie. He obviously lost weight to play the role of a down-and-out alcoholic who can't do the right thing in life. He transformed himself into someone 20 years older and I thought it was amazing. However, the good stops right there. The movie was slow, confusing, and doesn't really get into the workings, teachings and beliefs of the group. It's more about Joaquin's character fighting with his inner demons. Philip Seymour Hoffman was good as usual, but don't waste your time on this one, folks.
This was a good movie based on an actual family during the era of prohibition. It moved well, kept you interested from the opening scene until the ending scene. The acting was top-notch, but if you want to see an actor just totally walk all over the other actors around him, go and see this movie. Watch Tom Hardy. You know his character isn't a bad or ruthless man. But he portrayed this character as cool as anyone has ever played one. Sean Connery as James Bond, Bogie as Rick Blaine, James Cagney as Rocky Sullivan, you name one, and I guarantee you won't find one that was cooler and more in control than Forrest Bondurant. A piece of acting worthy of a Best Actor nomination if I've ever seen one.
Since I wasn't familiar with the movie and MovieTickets has it listed as a "comedy", I thought I'd be seeing something along the line of "Bernie". This is hardly a comedy. If you enjoy seeing grown men with teenage girls, and women beat to a pulp, then you'll love this movie. It reminded me of "The Killer Inside Me". Matthew McConaughey does a good job as usual, and Juno Temple is precious and innocent as the teenage daughter. Other than that, there weren't too many good points to the movie. And the ending................oh well, you'll have to see it for yourself. Hopefully when it comes out on DVD.
Ok I'm 59 and a big fan of the original Total Recall, but that doesn't mean I don't look forward to good remakes. The special effects and make up in the original look sort of dated now so I was hoping they'd come up with something fresh, but still stick to the main feeling of the original movie. I like Colin Farrell and was excited about seeing it. In the original there was something that Quaid knew that could help the planet. They allude to this in this movie, but never tell what it is. And the girl popping up with the three breasts?? Why?? Was she a mutant? Not as far as I know. As far as I could see, there weren't any in this movie. So they stick her in there just to capitalize on the first one? Nope, sorry......they didn't come close on this one. There are many remakes that are better than the originals, but this isn't one of them.
Ok so I'm an old guy. But I still enjoy good horror movies. But what was this?? Was it a horror? A comedy? Was it about the end of the world? A religious cult? The Hunger Games?? I mean COME ON!!!
This movie was absolutely brilliant. Ok so Bullock and Hanks don't have large roles....they still have very important roles in the movie. The boy is a fantastic. If you're a son, a father, a wife, or anyone that can relate to a young boy losing a father that he's extremely close to, you'll love this movie. Unfortunately, it's early in the year and may be forgotten by the time the Oscar nominations roll around. But the movie and especially the young boy, Thomas Horn, should definitely be up for consideration. Oh, and make sure to bring some Kleenex. You'll need them
I'm not sure who this movie is trying to target. You have the three kids, one an absolutely delightful little girl around 10, but then the movie centers around cocaine and oral sex. If that's what the movie is about, why have kids in it? And if you want to have kids in it, then get rid of the sex and drugs and have it focus on something else. I'm no prude but the opening scene just shouldn't be in a movie where three of the four central characters are under 13 or so. Now with that said, the movie had its funny moments, and I always think Jonah Hill is good. I just think they should have either gone total R-rated and gotten rid of the kids, or kept the kids and gone PG-13.
Did I actually see someone say this movie was funny? Hmmmm, I must have been watching an ENTIRELY different movie. There are numerous SNL alumni that try to hold up the level of the movie, but fail. I'm a big fan of Adam Sandler but I'm sorry, he's way off the mark on this one. Don't waste your time.
Ok now, I'm a fan of Eddie Murphy, and an even bigger fan of Ben Stiller, but come on!!!! This movie didn't know if it wanted to be an action-heist movie or a comedy. There were a few laughs here and there, but NOTHING anywhere NEAR what was implied in the trailers. And I won't spoil the ending, but what happened??? There is something they don't explain and..........never mind. I give up. See this movie at your own risk, folks. It's bad.
