Xmen + inglorious basterds + star trek-esque origin story = um, ok, pretty awesome. Patrick Stewart and Ian Mckellen are untouchable, but aside from a few cheesy mutant powers, the new vehicle for professor x and magneto seems to work very well.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

RE-3D = Better than Avatar

When compared to Avatar:
The 3d in this movie just looked better to me. Dialogue was on par. Fonts throughout were more tasteful. Music was of equal quality or better. Acting was just as good. Both had futuristic helicopters. Really, we're talking about the same caliber of film here, with the slight edge going to RE-3D due to a 100% original plot and adept use of the sexy/serious face when main characters were killing zombies in slow motion.
I didn't think Up was that great. Visually beautiful, but somehow just off with pacing and story. And it shows even more after seeing Toy Story 3, which was as close to perfect as a movie can get. The writers / animators didn't waste a single opportunity to entertain, tug at heart strings, or make us laugh. First time in a while ive walked out of a movie and not been slightly bunmed that i spent 13 bucks (and that was for non-3d, yikes). Good work guys!
A lot of fun to watch--the gadgets were great, the effects stellar. Micky Rourke = Randy the Ram + electric whips and a russian accent. For me, though, these ended up being nice pitstops along what was an otherwise overarching, somewhat clumsily constructed bridge to opening day for iron man 3. Still, seeing the Prince of Persia trailer beforehand makes you realize how thankful you should be that someone is tackling the fantasy-action genre in a somewhat unique way. Overall, good job Jon Favreau and Justin Theroux--even if this occasionally felt like Swingers inside an iron man suit.
