Should have been a masterpiece. Had amazing potential given the subject matter, Lee's concept and first-hand accounts that were available to writers. Excellent insight into the White vs Black vs Puerto Rican Americans vs Germans vs Italians. Camera work better than expected, realistic war action accurate enough. Some poor acting and melodramatic, non-prophetic mini-speeches threw me a curve. It was a few seconds of "what the fu*k was that all about?" then we were back into the drama and humanity of the film. Could have watched another hour of this story. Overall a fine movie that could have been one of the greatest in someone else's hands.
Not "the best film ever made"...but one of the best plots for this genre in years!!!!!!!!!!!! The Joker was especially on top of his game...lots of mind****ing going on in this one. Loved the snyde comments and physical 'ticks' that Heath Ledger gave the character. A simply amazing, exhausting performance by Ledger, worthy of all the accolades within the biz that he will probably get. I hope people don't belittle his nominations and possible wins due to his having died before the release. His really was a Master Performance as The Joker. Glad I spent the extra $$ on the IMAX screen for this one. I'll have to do it again soon...I missed a few smart a s s remarks by The Joker!
