I'm a big fan of D Barrymore and the post-feminist girl power that she brings to most of her movies. Exhilarating to see Eve, Barrymore, Ellen Page and Juliette Lewis get on the track, skate their butts off and not call in stunt actors or safety wires. Knowing the game and lifestyle inside out, I was disappointed that the skaters weren't portrayed as career women beyond being waitresses. I realize it's a movie--it's fun to add some clothes-lining, punches and tripping but I want to see those girls pi**ed off in the penalty box for illegal moves!! There are rules to Roller Derby that set the sport apart from the theatrics of yesteryear. All in all, I thought the movie was a hit. I thought it was really funny, filmed well and directed well.
