Well, this movie started out and developed better than I'd hoped. The trailer contains 90% of what you'll see and need to know of the first half. After that, the plot takes a downward turn and you are not impressed by how the writers have tried to surprise you.
The acting is decent overall, but the story is really far too weak for words. The substitution of good special effects for clever writing just does not work for this or any genre- especially when this was a first class opportunity to examine the morality of the entire cloning/patenting genes issue. Gattaca it isn't, nor Jurassic Park. This one will sink soon!
With a unique concept, excellent special effects, scenes of complex and touching beauty, and a good old "fighting for right" theme, Avatar is an treasure among modern films. With a distinct Native American flavor, this graceful portrayal of morality vs money keeps you engaged for the entire 2 hours and 40 minutes. Quick paced; powerful, vindicating. Well done Mr. Cameron, well done.
