The trailer promised smart, funny action, the movie was one loud brainless smack and crash after the other. A sadly transparent plot with misleading advertising showing Bruce Willis and Arnold who had perhaps 2 minutes of dialog - together. The cosmetically enhanced guys weren't a pleasure to look at. My two male co-sufferers, 19 and 48, were bored and annoyed. Said one of them: What do you say to a movie where Dolph Lundgren is the best actor?
Mamma Mia is at the edge of outch, an over the top fun movie. One sits there grinning all the time and when Pierce Brosnan starts singing it's just to die for bizarre. I never really liked Abba but how their music is elevated into images is genius and makes you listen in a different way. Our diverse group consisted of a 13 year old girl, a male teen of 17, a 50 year old journalist and writer and myself, an eco-conscious LA event planner - and everybody was thrilled.
