A dozen of the biggest action stars, doing what they do best. Fight scenes I didn't know I wanted to see until I saw them. The movie delivers exactly what it promises to deliver. Not really comparable to The Dirty Dozen, but still HIGHLY enjoyable.
I haven't worked that hard to understand a film in years, and I loved it for that. A fantastically original film with definite tributes to the Matrix, the Bond franchise, and 2001. As with other Nolan films I've viewed, I've been able to see where he is going before we get there, but the grandness of the film made the journey even more fantastic than I ever expected it could be. Becomes even more complex upon the second viewing. My top film of the year.
STAR TREK sets a high bar for summer blockbusters. I went opening day with serious Trek fans, but I'd never seen a single episode or prior movie. We all thought it was FANTASTIC. Action-packed and high-gloss, with the right balance of humor & pathos, modernity & nostalgia. It's a re-boot that doesn't deny it's history. Very well done. WELL WORTH THE EXTRA $ FOR IMAX. Visual effects were stunning and sound quality (during warp speed, explosions, implosions, etc.) transported you there. Wouldn't call it "the greatest film ever" or even "best film of the year," but THIS is what going to the movies is all about. I doubt you'll be disappointed, unless you're looking for a duplicate of what's come before.
A good movie in the vein of Freaky Friday, 13 going on 30, and Back to the Future. Efron and Thomas Lennon MADE the film worthwhile. Interestingly enough, the theater was about 90% Efron fans, all ages (and gender). Few were disappointed.
It definitely earned it's PG-13 rating, which made it a bit more for adults than for teens. I'd recommend it to a friend for sure -- anyone with a curiosity in or an affection for Zac Efron. Anyone else, I'd say spend your money elsewhere.
Visually spectacular, Snyder and crew absolutely brought the other-worldliness of the graphic novel to life.
That said, if I hadn't read the novel, I don't know if I would have been able to follow the story. The music was more distracting than reminiscent of an alternate past. LOTS of nudity (not in a good way). The film was really long.
Happily, the characters weren't caricatures. Rorschach was the BEST -- Kovacs was exactly what I wanted to see. I wished they'd focused more on his storyline & less on the Dan/Laurie.
A good film for fans, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who hasn't read the novel. A dated storyline and confusing flow, if you don't know where it's going. This was NOT 300.
Watch the trailers, and you'll know what you're getting yourself into. If you find them even slightly entertaining then you won't be disappointed -- the casting was PERFECT and the action was some of the best I've seen in a long time. If you're not into intense action, then don't complain that the movie was too violent; WALL-E should be playing down the hall.
