We expected this movie to be great and it did not disappoint (husband and I took it in for date night). Colin Firth was fantastic as many have mentioned, but I think Helena Bonham-Carter was marevellous as well. As the duchess then queen, she was nice but not too nice. :) Happen to have seen Room with a View within the past two weeks so it was a real time marker to see how she has matured. Geoffrey Rush was of course great. The intrafamily stuff was compelling. The only thing that grated a little for me was I thought the Geoffrey Rush/Colin Firth relationship was a little overplayed. Some scenes were fun (when he introduces the King to his wife it is priceless), but sometimes I felt it was one meaningful look too many. Overall thoroughly enjoyable.
I thought this was a sweet, pretty funny but touching film. Kristen Stewart was fantastic. We went to see her because we (a middle aged couple!) are big Twilight fans. She was more like Bella here than we would have expected but she played such a flawed but principled character really well. We remain big fans of her. We liked the lead guy, but I can't remember his face today, the morning after. Not a big presence. Some of the supporting roles were really great -- LOVE Wendy Malick! I laughed out loud when she was pulling the main character out of his car after an all nighter. Worth seeing, glad we saw it in the theater.
