With the summer movie season not quite here, the current selection has worn fairly thin. Like a couple of the last several I have seen, I selected "Easy Virtue" pretty much by default, having already been to most everything else, and not really knowing what to expect. It was a great surprise! Well written and acted, beautifully filmed and wickedly funny, it is a wonderful film with many an interesting plot twist. I really enjoyed it, and you will too!
Not being a particularly big Star Trek fan, I decided to see this movie primarily because I had already seen the others of merit that were playing...what a great surprise. The story, cast and special effects combine to make this one of the best movies I have seen this year; much better, in fact, than several that were much more hyped. Chris Pine was a perfect choice for the young Kirk. He leads the cast in a tale that grips you from the moment the movie starts, and holds on until long after you have left the theater...go see it!
PARENTS: **READ THIS** This is a terrific movie, but it is not "Batman"! Unless you want to explain to your younger teenagers the concepts of love, lust, betrayal, sex, rape, child sexual abuse, dismemberment, animal brutality and murder, all very graphically depicted, do NOT take them to this R rated movie. The theater I saw it in was packed with kids, some as young as 8-10 years old. The ones who weren't whisked out of the theater during the first 15 minutes, were walking around dazed and confused, holding the hands of their shell shocked "adult guardians" at the end of the show! What were these people thinking, bringing these kids to such a picture? All that being said, I thought the movie itself was great... see it!
If you need a good laugh, see this movie...I don't have any myself, but the kids in the theater loved it, seemed to relate to the humor, and I did too...Lots of fun!
I was totally prepared to hate this "chick flick"; was dragged kicking and screaming to see it. Imagine my surprise and delight at what an amazing movie it turned out to be! The movie is filled with talented actors who (quite accurately) portray people that all of us know in real life. It is extremely funny, as well as touching, realistic and entertaining. Both men and women can take something away from this movie, but I can see why most of the negative reviews have come from women...I suspect it hits a little too close to home for some. Well, judging by their reaction, the packed house (mostly women!) I saw it with would heartily disagree with the nay sayers...see this movie; you will love it!
