"Let's take 40 years of SciFi canon, trash it, and do it our way."
This usually called hubris. In this case, it's called Star Trek.
The staff of this movie have totally and completely reborn this franchise. The cast is young; the entire Star Fleet world is new but utterly familiar. There's room here for another 10 sequels.
The action is by and large non-stop. There's stuff in this movie for non-Trekkies and Trekkies alike. My only criticism is the He!!'s Angels Romulans and their squid-like ship.
This is an amazing movie. The animation is flawless; at times you really do wonder if you're looking at real things.
It is a movie with an adult message, and no adult-aged content. It's totally kid-friendly. The message is communicated very subtly, and very overtly. It's spoken and unspoken.
The character of Wall-E is lovable, and he gives hope in the end for us all.
It's remarkable to see a movie that is equally for kids and grown ups. See this movie, with your kids, if you have any.
