I, Grammy, went with my daughter and her 2 children ...... 7 and 11. We all loved it. The animation was wonderful, Jack Black was wonderful, Dustin Hoffman was wonderful. In other words, it's a wonderful movie for kids of all ages.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
