Danny Boyle does it again with a stirring and inspirational story of "daredevil" and highly resourceful outdoorsman Aron Ralston. The direction, acting, cinematography, editing and music was all top-flight. Without question, James Franco should be nominated for an Academy Award, as he pulls off a very difficult assignment, especially in light of the fact that he is on screen nearly every minute of the running time.

Hated the book--but LOVED the movie--because I had read the book. James Franco did a fabulous job trying to portray in the limited time available what an incredible risk taker Aron was and his total obliviousness to danger to himself and to his friends in all of his exploits prior to the canyon incident. The end of the movie is gory, but anyone who faints is a total wimp--you see much worse on CSI. James Franco was robbed last year--he should have been put up for best supporting actor in Milk. I hope he is recognized for his amazing performance in this movie (which, again, is enhanced if you have read the book).

Well directed, well acted and a fine portrayal of an interesting story.....but it is a very limited story about a guy who caused himself to get in a jam, took an extraordinary measure by himself and got out of the jam at a high price. It was almost not a story worthy of a full movie even though Danny Boyle makes the most of it. Simply too simple and unique to offer many life lessons or spend 90 minutes on. I love seeing movies over and over, but not this one.

The simplicity of this film was the best part. I wondered how they could make 127 hours in a man's life hold my interest, but I was surprised when it was over... that it was over! It's getting harder and harder to say good words about great films because you realize that the films are so good they can speak for themselves. This is one such film. With so few props you get a great sense of action and adventure, drama and intensity of emotion, humor and silliness, isolation and loneliness, love and hopefulness. I enjoyed this movie. James Franco did a great job and I sincerely hope he gets Oscar recognition for it. It could easily have been boring but it kept my attention with his videotaping and mirages. Movies developed around true stories are intriguing, but they can also be harrowing. This moving is both intriguing and harrowing. Not really into the bloody, bone crushing, cutting and tearing into human flesh "scene" as some might be, I found myself turning my head away only to imagine in my minds eye what what happening. I have been intriqued by this story since reading the part in Aron's book about how he gave a sightseeing tour of the landscape to the pilots whom rescued him, while being embarrased of bleeding on the seats. I have been to the Blue John and Horsehoe Canyons twice since his trapping, and almost got stuck in the middle fork of Blue John myself. I sat in an area and reflected how it would be for 127 hours, knowing in this extreme remote area, no one is likely to come. The movie was wonderfully made, and i thought it perfect to focus fully on the real person trapped, and not on the multiple people involved in trying to find him, through the hard determine work of his Mom. The false addition of Aron and the girls sliding down the "narrows" into a beautiful pool was excellent. Aron's book "Between A Rock and A Hard Place" inspired me to go beyond my then current limits. The Director's ending of showing Aron with his new wife was great. If anyone that loves the movie is not aware of the full story, there is much more to enjoy.

This is a great movie. Danny Boyle directed this film perfectly. James Franco was astounding. I would say this movie is iffi for 13+ because if you took your kid to it and they covered their eyes this movie would be PG-13. Just as he did in Slumdog Millionaire, Danny Boyle, in his latest, gives this movie an above-average pulse. I knew the story well before I saw this movie, but that didn't kill the movie experience one bit. Boyle is a director who knows how to take any story and turn it into an interesting moviegoing experience, constantly throwing dazzling images at the audience that are neither seizure-inducing nor dizzying in their effects. (Even Millions, which I didn't care for, had its moments.) And, just think about this, most of the movie you are with one man and a rock! Filmmaking like this takes true brilliance.
127 Hours is not for the squeamish. But, for those who can handle a few minutes of very bloody images, this is one amazing film and features a performance from James Franco that makes you think the guy went through what Ralston actually did go through.

Here's the facts: Aron Ralston was climbing in the canyons of Utah when he fell and got his hand wedged by a rock, but cut it off to escape. Knowing this going into the movie already creates a level of anticipation to keep you on the edge of your seat. So how do you keep that level without losing the audience? Danny Boyle's style and James Franco's Aron, manage to show us the progression making us realize how it could happen to anyone.
This is not really a movie that you "enjoy," it's more of an emotional experience. Hearing the story you think to yourself that you could never to what Aron Ralston did. However, with each small event happening on screen, you begin to imagine how it could. The level of realism really pulls you in and can be difficult to watch at times.
Like any true story, the point isn't what happened necessarily, but more of how it happened. I liked that it didn't go for the cheesy "inspirational" angle, just more about how, when faced with adversity, you do what you got to do.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

This is the rare type of film that will stay with you long after you leave the theater! It is based on the true story of a thrill-seeking loner who falls into the worst kind of predicament. The story is rather simple, but the directing is so masterful that you quickly realize how special the whole experience will be. There are some amazing flashback scenes that highlight the trapped hiker's state of mind. In the span of 127 hours, the character realizes all of his mistakes and is reborn. This is must-see movie for anyone who likes movies in general, hiking, rock-climbing, rocky romances, carefree living, nature, and survival. I fully expect to hear about this movie come awards time.
