Too many bad liberties from book

If you didnt read the book, this movie gets only 2 stars for mild entertainment, story, and acting/directing even though the sever arm scene was riveting. If you DID read the book, this adaptation gets one measely star as Director Boyle (whose work I loved in Slumdog and Trainspotting) takes stupid liberties with the story trying to add sex to an exclusively adventure-gone-awry novel. Would've been better off developing the main character with his previous adventures and upbringing than to imply he'd be thinking about masterbating while on the cusp of death. Pathetic!
Based upon actual events, the movie portrays the ordeal of a nice but overly macho and cocky hiker, Aron Walston, who winds up in a pickle when a fall in the wilderness of Canyonlands, Utah lands him deep in a crevice with his right arm pinned under a rock. He remains positive, but cannot escape reviewing his life. Eventually he cuts himself free, at the loss of half his forearm. This act is depicted, but not as a gorefest. It seems impossible to have an interesting move running to an hour and a half about these events, but director Danny Boyle succeeds. Ultimately a positive movie about a man in a terrible situation whose spirit prevails.
Danny Boyle managed to make 127 hrs of solitude extremely endurable and thought provoking. I really liked James Franco and wouldn't have expected this from him... but he did very well w/ the solitude and insight on the character. I enjoyed it. Definitely recommend it. It also has a real "Danny Boyle"-style.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

great story and lack of engage

I think that overall the movie is not good, is too long and even though they try to convey the bigger message outside of the situation of being stock for days trying to survive, they could have find a way to do a better job. James Franco was great and he really play the role of a real claimer, but again I felt that they could have done something better with the script in order to engage people more through this real life experience. There are a few scenes that photographically speaking are very well done but even though I liked it I wasn’t fully satisfied.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Amazing Story!

My mom and I tried to see this movie a few weeks after it originally opened. I guess the movie theaters weren't making enough $$$ off of it at first. So, when it got nominated for an Oscar, all of the sudden it showed up at the theaters again. I'm so glad it did but I think it really sucks that all the theaters care about is making $$$, not what is actually going to entertain us! Anyway, James France is totally awesome and the movie is powerful! Hope it wins! :)

127 Hours

In this powerful, moving story of perseverance and courage, James Franco is dazzling. The story of a reckless adventurer who is faced with the consequences of his carefree (and careless) existence becomes a harrowing and sometimes brutal journey to find his life's true meaning. An amazing film.
James Franco is a really dynamic actor! From the Spider-Man trilogy to Pineapple Express to his most recent cameo in The Green Hornet, he really makes his mark on the big screen!
In "127 Hours" he practically pulls off the movie all by himself!
His performance is intense and full of spirit!
If you like great acting, then you'll love this motion picture!
Yes, I recommend this movie.

By the time this movie reached day two, I began to fear that it was literally 127 hours long. The nature of the story is compelling because it's true, but watching someone hack his arm off does not art make. Boring, unimaginative and manipulating pretty much sums it up. It's not really worth writing about - this movie couldn't make a wave in a bathtub.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Even though I knew how it ended before I got there, I was on the edge of my seat. James Franco's acting was incredible, as always. At one point it seemed to be a little slow, but it picked right back up. If that's my only issue with the movie, then it's still a great one in my book!
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Best Movie I've Seen So Far

I personally loved this movie. It keeps you on the edge of your seat and makes you want more. Many people think it's boring because it's 90 minutes capturing the main character on camera in the same place. Well, it's not boring at all. The movie went by fast and I enjoyed every minute of it. For the amputation scene, it's not as bad as you may think it is. Yes, it's quite gory, but not that gruesome for you to faint. If you feel lightheaded, just close your eyes. Take deep breaths as you are watching the scene. Don't let it affect you from going to watch the movie. The movie is still worth watching even if there is a bloody scene. Danny Boyle did a wonderful job directing the movie once again and it will probably cost him an Oscar. For performances, all the supporting actors gave decent performances even if they were only in the movie for the first 10 minutes. In the meantime, James Franco gave a tour-de-force performance which should definitely cost him an Oscar as well. In my opinion, 127 Hours is a visceral thrilling movie that takes you on a journey beyond your imagination and proves to you what we can do when we choose life. I highly recommend watching this movie! :)

Watching a guy who cannot move for close to two hours. Hmm. Sounds pretty dull.
It's anything but. Gripping and tense throughout. I was sweating towards the end and my heart was beating through my shirt.
Franco is a must for a best actor nomination and so far I think he should win it. This should garner one of the 10 best pix noms too.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

We saw this movie last night and, although it was hard to watch at times, it was excellent. James Franco carried the whole movie on his own and did a fantastic job. This could have been a really boring movie about one man alone for five days, but Danny Boyle's vision and James Franco's performance kept us riveted the whole time.
Definitely recommended for anyone but the squeamish!

I really enjoyed this movie. James Franco played an excellent part, and the scenery was breath taking. Since it is an INDY It is not playing in many theaters so a lot of people will miss out on a well written, acted, and photograph movie of the year.
Extremely Powerful. Extremely well acted by James Franco. Extremely well directed by Danny Boyle. Extremely hard to watch but well worth it. Its been an hour since I left the theater and my heart is still racing. This is a tour de force story of a young man who loves to explore, rock climb, and push his limits against nature. It tells the tale of a journey gone horribly wrong in every way and how sometimes all of your ingenuity alone is not enough, and you have to fall back on your resolve to survive. James Franco shows his range as he goes through all the emotions of a trapped man who realizes he probably won't get out alive. His performance is Oscar worthy. This is an amazing film but definitely not for the squeemish. Be prepared, just as the real man he portrays, Aron Ralston (who makes a nice curtain call) was. Highly recommended.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

While I'm all for celebrating the human spirit, this story is about Darwinism and about lessons learned. I would not spend money to promote stupidity of an individual who was lucky to survive.

James Franco just leaped up a few notches in his acting with this particular movie - beautifully directed, too. And truthfully, not nearly as horrific as some people have made it out to be...finally, I loved how much humor there was, even in the gravest moments...so glad I saw it!

A powerful, inspiring movie. The courage and resourcefulness of the main character was amazing. Interesting to see light into what he thought about facing certain death. I would recommend it.
