This is what movies should be -- a funny story, well acted, well directed and it makes you feel as though you were in Cedar Rapids with the characters. I saw it last night and already want to see it again.

A basically funny, simple story of a man's openning to the wider possibilities around him. Well acted and convincing, there is nothing particularly earth-shaking about this movie. Still it works to provide an enjoyable story with likable, though fairly stock, characters.

It was just fun. Nothing spectacular, but the movie doesn't promise that. The movie delivers on the warmth and humor that is promises--kind of like "Snakes on a Plane", you know what you are going to get when you go into "Cedar Rapids" and you're not disappointed. Kudos to the writers and the actor for showing a good example of suburban, salt of the earth, Black men who are just working hard to make a living and whose closest affiliation to "the streets" is an HBO program. Kudos on also making a prostitute feel like a human being of worthy of being treated as such. Kudos on making me feel the value of community. Kudos on making assumptions that people can know the meaning of hints and innuendo without having to spell it out (you can laugh at both what is on screen as well as the fact that you know you are picking up on things that some audience members aren't, which is awesome!). Kudos on making drug use and backhanded dealings seem like problems that can and do affect any community or any type of individual. Understated in its marketing and delivery, this was a well done movie.

It's a shame this movie is being linked with mindless romps like "The Hangover". I suppose it brings in more ticket buyers but it does an injustice to the thoughtfulness and tenderness of the characters. It certainly is funny but also an insight into the despair felt when ones' heroes turn out to be real people.

We were entertained, and Cedar Rapids held our attention. It was straight forward ... sometimes you need a movie that doesn't make you think too much. John C. Reilly pretty much carried the whole movie, but the other characters were solid as well.

I was genuinely looking forward to this movie, as I love the actors in it... I NEVER walk out of movies - until now. The best word to describe it is "stupid," and not the "funny kind of stupid..." just stupid. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone, unfortunately.
