I thought this would just be one of those crude movies I never go to, but we finally had a sitter and our other choices had left the theatre. Since it got decent reviews, we gave it a try. I really did enjoy it. I cared about the main character, the story worked, and it was a nice way to spend the evening. Nothing great, but it was worth getting out of the house for, and it made me smile.

What a waste. I have only walked out of 3 movies in 35 years of movie-going. This was one of them! Absolutely boring and the writing was terrible. The director should stick to doing Ugly Betty episodes. Thankfully I was able to walk into the next theatre and catch Battle:Los Angeles and not throw away my money. I can't believe this movie got such high ratings. Don't waste your money!

A surprisingly bad movie! I read all the "real people" reviews and thought Cedar Rapids would be fun to see. I like raunchy movies as much as anyone, but these people worked overtime to get as many disgusting remarks in as possible. Poor Ed Helms always plays Ed Helms, whether he's a paper salesman from Scranton or an insurance salesman from Iowa. I didn't feel any of the characters were especially likable or the story all that well written.
They say to stay for the credits. Do so only if you enjoy watching a grown man light farts.
This movie is definately not for everyone. Save your money.

Cedar Rapids is a small, endlessly charming comedy. It's not laugh-a-minute, but the characters will leave you smiling long after you've left the theater. Its funny, raunchy and goofy, but it also has heart and underlying warmth that makes it most appealing. A really entertaining effort, aided by some terrific performances. These are characters it's a pleasure to spend time with and the movie knows it. A must see.

My husband and I are both in the insurance business in the Midwest so we wanted to see how Hollywood would handle that situation. I have to say, they got it right. I was especially moved by Tim's reasoning for wanting to be an agent. The movie was hilarious and John C Reilly was his usual spot on self. Not for kids, but they shouldn't be on your Date Night anyway....

Well-written and well-directed, Cedar Rapids never lags or becomes boring. All of the characters are fleshed out and treated with respect, flaws and all. The cast is talented and well-balanced. The script moves in logical ways, and the dialogue is charming, efficient and witty. It is a great date movie for anyone over 21 (I don't think it would appeal to the teen crowd.) Highly recommended.

We really enjoyed this film. Showed us about a part of America we know little of. The actors were hilarious. It moved as we move in real time, no murders, no car crashes, just real problems being solved by limited people. Great film to see you want to relax, laugh your head off and then go home and sleep soundly.

A great flick about a unique individual in a unique situation... A really good cast and a great little story. Go see this just to watch John C Reilly play the "obnoxious" good guy. The rest of the cast is great too. A really funny and tight storyline that also makes you feel good at the end.

I'm not a mid-westerner, but this little story about a small town Iowa boy who goes to the big city, loses his innocence, and finds harsh reality, and the true meaning of friendship is a theme I will never tire of. The message here is that innocence is not always innocent. No, its not Frank Capra; its far too crude, but the feeling is very familiar and enjoyable.
This is the kind of small film with a small story that surprises and entertains. Its sweet and its smart and very enjoyable. The laughs are good and the script tight. Its the kind of sleeper hit that will become big once it reaches a mass audience on cable. But see it now because its worth the money. AND stay for the credits. They're a hoot!

Welcome to mid town America with the opening of this film. The film starts out with the charming premise that in a small town everybody knows everybody and that keeps the bad seeds out…or does it?
AN insurance agency owner has been participating in what appears to be an insurance agency franchise operation. Every year, the coveted “2 diamond award” is handed out to the agency which best embodies the values and demonstrates excellence in sales. Days before the convention, the owner mysteriously turns up dead as a result of suicide. The owner had slated to attend the annual convention where they hope, once again, to receive the two diamond award. The manager of the agency cannot attend and thus Tim Lippe (Ed Helms) is asked to make the presentation to try and secure the award, despite the death of the force behind the company, Tim does not appear to have ever left his home town and with his Eagle Scout like persona, he is off for the multi day convention at Cedar Rapids.
Much like the adage, what happens in Las Vegas, stays in Las Vegas, the convention is the jackpot of social life for many of the agents and they are going to make the best of it. In many ways, the movie reminded me of “The Hangover”, on a different scale in a different place.
The movie is really a comedy/drama where comedy plays the biggest part. I must say it was hilarious and had me howling a few times. As a man watching the film, women seemed to ne demeaned in a number of occasions. After thinking about it, from a women’s viewpoint I think men are made to look just as foolish, pr perhaps more so. In any case the movie is an equal opportunity laugh seeker.
The underlying story is somewhat simple. Lots of people present themselves as better than thou or just plain better than everybody else. On the other hand a number of people are presented as below a certain level of dignity or just plain losers. The fun in the film is revealing the underbelly of the high and mighty and revealing the heroism and good within those that come off as odd or losers.
This movie was a lot of fun. It’s not for kids due to language and some “mature scenes”, but for the grownups this is bound to please. The movie seems to be playing in a somewhat limited release so see it while you can. This is a movie that can wait for DVD, however. It’s better than most it you are looking for a date night idea right now!

I haven't heard anything about this movie but i took a chance...what a pleasant surprise! Good characters....especially John C. Reilly and Anne Hecht...Ed Helmes was a bit of a disappointment (gets old after about an hour but....) . Had some great lines...gross or not!

This movie is a hoot on virtually every level. I was born and raised in Iowa, attended college and got married there. I am an old, simple midwestern boy at heart (even though Arizona has been home now for almost 30 years). My wife of 34 years is from Cedar Rapids! Ed Helms is perfectly cast as the honorable sales guy attending his first big convention, making his first plane flight and staying in a big city hotel in Cedar Rapids IA (the home of the Quaker Oats company). Ed's character is repressed on a nuclear level. The mix of characters and the mis-adventures that they find themselves in is hilarious and most of us can at least relate on some level (especially if you are from the midwest and have a sales background). This comedy gem is a perfectly blended stew with a wide range of comedy seasoning. At times it is innocent and sweet .... at times it is raunchy and audacious .... at times it is weird and eccentric .... at times it is physical and slapstick ... and it traverses all of these comedic stylings with originality, panache and congruity. Bravo - all of you funny people that put your geniuses to work to tickle our funny bones in "Cedar Rapids"! You nailed it! I'm laughing out loud as I write this review just remembering scenes from the movie. No finer compliment ..... a big Rhino Horn up!

Usually today's movies are either crude for the male audience or sweetly romantic for the female. Somehow this sleeper of a hit manages to provide solid gross jokes while making you something for the lead characters. Ed Helms (Hangover) plays the perfect naive small-town guy thrust into the "big" world of a convention in Cedar Rapids. John C. Reilly is the obnoxious agent with a touching story driving the smokescreen, Anne Heche is the party agent escaping a dull, dead marriage, and Isiah Whitlock Jr. (The Wire) surprises us will a small, quiet yet critical performance. The innocence and coming of age without seeming stupid or dumb really makes this movie shine. The the twist at the end provides you with a reason to come back and see it again.

This movie was very good. Ed Helms led an all-star cast in this hilarious comedy about a insurance salesman who goes to a seminar to try and win his company a two diamond award. I am all for raunchy dialogue when it is funny, but the dialogue in this movie was terrible and not the least bit amusing. I would have walked out, but I was hoping that it would get better. I am a fan of John C. Reilly, but they made his character really obnoxious. Anne Heche was the only saving grace, but are we really supposed to rally around a character that is so intent on cheating on her husband while at a convention, that she will pick someone as lame as the leading man? We went to see it because we are from Iowa. We expected it to be stupid but we rather enjoyed it. My only complaint is that it was filmed in Michigan, not Iowa - only a few arial shots of Cedar Rapids were authentic.

Had no idea what to expect going in. This was a laugh out loud movie. It did get a little foolish at times ( similar to Hangover) but worth it. Sometimes you just want to see a movie where you can sit back, relax and enjoy the humor.

This movie was so fun. The comedic timing was impeccable. You grow to love the character s in this one. Two days later and I'm still laughing! You have got to see this movie before it escapes sleeper status.
