Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1, is the first installment in the 5 hour epic film that will bring a conclusion to the big screen run of the most popular book series in recent memory. With Harry(Daniel Radcliffe), Hermione(Emma Watson), and Ron(Rupert Grint) on the run from Lord Voldemort(Ralph Fiennes) and the Death Eaters this film picks up right were the Half-Blood Prince left off. Dumbledore is dead and it is up to Harry to collect the 7 Horcruxes, the key to destroying Voldemort. Voldemort’s power is growing by the hour; he now has control over the Ministry of Magic and Hogwarts. Lord Voldemort will stop at nothing to find Harry Potter and kill him.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 accomplished exactly what it was designed to do. The film entertains the audience while setting up what appears to be a great final film next summer. The decision to split the final book into two films will be debated by many, but in my opinion it works. Part one of the story gives us a chance to see the characters, which we have grown to love, experience life outside of Hogwarts. Seeing the characters visit new locations and interact in the “real world” give the moviegoer something new in this series that we have spent a decade enjoying. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the characters move from one location to another as they search for the missing Horcrux. The sets, cinematography, and effects all blended together so well across the variety of locations.
However, as someone who has enjoyed most of the films in the series without having read one page of the books I haven’t missed the chunks of the books that have been left out in previous films. With the decision to split the final book into two films, the writers and the director have obviously been able to include much more of the book in the film. While readers of the books most certainly will enjoy that, at times the film did seem to drag a bit. The pace of this film is slower than the previous, it doesn’t detract from the overall experience as long as you are prepared for more detail that you might be used to from this series.
The seventh Harry Potter film is 2 hours and 26 minutes of fun and excitement. When the lights came up and the credits started to roll I found myself wishing that I could stay in my seat for another two or three hours and watch the second part of this film. However, we will all have to wait until July for that privilege. In the meantime enjoy this film and put your excitement on hold for a few months.

It's another great visualization of the most important parts of the story - the coming of age of the teens and the fight against darkness. Yates really has the feel of the series down and the only drawbacks I saw were it being a "first half" picture and a couple of the scenes lacked some of the oomph relative to the book, but overall the series is enjoying a long peak!!

I loved that it so closely follows the book! I teach Reading and we often have discussions about how frustrating it is to spend the time reading an excellent book and then have a movie that stinks...may have great special effects and characters, but stinks because it is so loosely based on the book, leaves out important info., adds or deletes characters, etc. Not so with Deathly Hallows! I am currently re-reading the book and was amazed at how closely it follows the book. Great job, great effects, awesome characters! So sad that the series is coming to an end! So worth driving 100 miles to see it in IMAX as well! Wish we had one in Tyler, TX. Loved it!!!!

David Yates did a magnificent job adapting the last book in the HP series into a Movie. For those who didn't know, this was split into 2 movies bc: A) the director wanted to stay as close to possible to the book, which was the longest in the series. B) Having the movie in 2 parts allowed for a much larger budget which allowed the director to really do a great 2 part movie.
DO yourself a favor after you watch.. take a look back at the first film and remind yourself that these characters and this story are truely years in the making and this move is best shown in 2 parts. You'll think..Peter Jackson should have done this with LOTR... would have made it much better!

This movie never stopped. It was much deeper than the others as well it should be with the kids getting older it has evolved into a wonderful suspenseful movie series. The acting is great. I have to say that I jumped in my seat more than a few times. My husband who normally just comes with me because I 've asked him to actually enjoyed this one and wants to see the next one to find out what happens. I really enjoyed it and will go see it again before it leaves the movie theater.

This installment was the best=closest to the book since the second one. My daughter, age 15, and I thoroughly enjoyed the IMAX enhancements. Whoever decided to divide the final book into two movies deserves to be knighted.

I found this to be a waste of 2 1/2 hours. They spend their whole time in the woods & it was slow & boring. I hope part 2 will be more action pack because the book tells so much more informations & this part 1 didn't do it justice.

Really, 4.5 stars since I give only AMAZING movies a true 5 rating. Well crafted, older and darker now is the storyline but still remains interesting. IMAX theater was a very positive experience. Definitely worth seeing and waiting for the final chapter (part 2)

We’ve grown up with Potter and we’re ecstatic to see the series has grown into adulthood without losing any magic or wizardry. Definitely darker than previous movies; however, kids who’ve followed the series will actually welcome the more mature perspective of this storyline. Highly recommend to all Potter fans everywhere!

Excellent new addition to the Potter series of movies. Saw it on an IMAX screen...Awesome. We really got to get inside the main 3 characters in this movie. Would have liked Jinny to have a larger part though. Special effects were quite good. For a 2 and 1/2 hour movie - this one really flew by. Excellent pacing! Can't wait for part two.

The movie is dark with only a few rays of hope,but excellent. The older and wiser trio travel this movie as three young adults, not the brave children we have enjoyed in previous movies. There is more individuality in action and motivation of each of them while seeking the goal. There are many tense and frightening scenes in the movie(Parents of young children, beware !).

It was better than Prisoner of Azkaban, Goblet of Fire, and Half-Blood Prince. It's about on par with Order of the Phoenix. They leave out major details (like, the entire deal with Dumbledore), they don't explain the mirror, there is no Tonks family, there is no Dean. They don't mention the Taboo. There's much to be desired. However, it gets a 'good' rating because it is better than the crapfests that were movies 3,4, and 6 and there are some parts of the book that are perfectly represented in this movie. For example, the scene with the locket 'fighting back' and the scene with the 7 Potters was great.

My 15 and 11 year olds loved it, but I thought it dragged a bit. The periods of waiting were like actually waiting.....for something to happen.

I am a huge HP fan so the movie would admittedly have to be very bad for me to not like it. Several scenes were just like I pictured them in my head when I read the book, always a good sign to me that the movie people "got" the book. It moved a bit slow but so did the book since this is the quest part of the story and quest always move a bit slow. One scene I think they should have done was Harry convincing the Dursleys to go into hiding and Duddly showing some hope that he might turn out to be a decent person someday. So other than that and having to wait till next summer for the rest no complaints.

FOUND THIS EPISODE SOMEWHAT SLOW. SCREEN BLACKS OUT OFTEN AND THEN WE ARE SOMEPLACE ELSE LACKS CONTINUITY, MANY THINGS FROM BOOK ARE LEFT OUT WHICH WOULD HELP THE MOVIE GOER UNDERSTAND THE PLOT BETTER.
