Although I missed the familiar Hogwarts settings, now-deceased characters, and the humor and cuteness of earlier movies in the series, this was the best of all and a fitting first half of the finale. Amazing photography and cinematography; outstandingly creative set and costume designs; dazzling special effects. The main characters have grown up before our eyes, and the story line has matured along with them -- this isn't really a movie for young kids.

I'm a HUGE HP fan but this didn't live up to my expectations. I understand they need to build for the climax but found a chunk of it to be dragging - like the scenes where they keep moving from place to place. They also changed ALOT of details like at the wedding reception. Harry was supposed to be one of the Weasley cousins and thought it would have been interesting to see who they find for it. Bellatrix used the Cruciatus Curse on Hermione vs just carving the word "Mudblood" on her skin. Maybe it was too cruel to show it but she's supposed to be tortured in that scene and Bellatrix is known for it. At the cellar, they failed to include the part where they asked Griphook to lie about the sword being real. I thought it was important to establish why Bellatrix was infuriated about finding the sword.

The first few movies in the series were age appropriate for younger children, but as the saga progressed, so did the intensity of "darkness" and I would definitly not suggest a child under the age of 12 should see this film, which would be a tradgey to many. But, like the book, there is too much fear, horror, and just plain old "scariness" for the kids. That being said, I was spellbound with the IMAC experience of a most excellent film. The characters were true, special effects up to expectations, and sets and set decorations most excellant. My only disappointment was that parts of the book were changed, shortened, or eliminated, I assume for sake of time, but I had hoped this would not be the case with a two-part film. However, I was totally delighted and sorry to see the movie end, knowing it will be quite some time before I can see the final tale in the saga of Harry Potter, and even sadder knowing that it will be the end of the story I have grown to love so much. It was a fantastic IMAX experience, and I look forward to Deathly Hallows Part II.

The movie was good. I hated the way it ended and felt like it was completely disconnected from the other movie endings. Every movie before has ended with the three kids together. Not this one. I saw it in IMAX. I felt that experience was ok, but not really a huge change. If you have a extra couple of bucks, it is worth it, but not necessary. All in all, a good movie. Lots and lots of suspense. They really did a great job at making you feel as though the enemies were right there. A good movie! Cannot wait for the finale!

It was just ok.... but more importantly I drove down to the IMAX theatre in Manchester CT for the IMAX experience. The screen was not much bigger than a regular screen, but the price was quite bit higher. That was the bigger disappointment. You should see the movie because it is Harry Potter.. but don't expect Goblet of Fire type excitement.....

Dividing the Final Book into 2 movies is an excellent plan, we'll get to see the whole book play out, as opposed to condensing it. But a side effect of this is that the first movie is very story bound and there isn't the usual taste of all the other Harry Potter Movies. But as a fan I was drawn in the entire time, the images are grand, the fighting excellent and all the actors have gorwn and become amazing at their roles. Be prepared this Book is the darkest of all the Harry Potter books and since you only get to see one half, your left on the dark side of things in the end. See it in IMAX, there is no better way to see this extraordinary movie.

I enjoyed the movie. Went with my family. Saw the movie in IMAX. Great experience in the theater. I know the book had the 3 in the woods a lot but it really slowed the movie down. The seen with Harry and Hermione in the woods was unnecessary and gratuitus. It wasn't in the book and was added for visual effect. Violence has the movie rated PG-13 and even semi-nudity is unnecessary in what is still supposed to be a movie for young adults. Can't wait for the final installment.

if you go IMAX expect to go deaf. get there 1 hour in advance. If you are in a e major city make sure everyone has their stubs because they will check the validity of them.
They did a good job of dicing the book in half. I thought that the makeup done on Ron was done quite poorly but the scenery was bloody amazing. Not that you would watch for the scenery but come on it really was so beautiful.
Dumbledore was explained more than even the books gave premise too, which impressed me. so I was pleased. KUDOS to cast. I'll be sad when it's over.

It's been over half a year since the first time I saw preview of final Harry Potter, I am expecting it to be epic, heroic and exciting. However, I spent over 2 hours sitting there watching three kids jumping around in the woods and acting scared and innocent. Unlike when the previous movies came out, I didn't re-read the series before I went to see this installation. I went in with high hopes to see my favorite parts in the book come to life on the screen. For the most part I was not disappointed. One of the parts I thought they should have dug a little deeper for would be with Dobby at the end. I felt like they could have made it a little more real for Harry & they should have showed the headstone he makes for him. Also the Wormtail bit part in the cellar wasn't very cohesive. Since they never have made him a big part of the end for Harry in the previous movies, I suppose that is just one of the side plots that falls by the wayside for timing. I loved all of the visuals in this movie. It seemed to make the struggle all the more real for our heroes. All in all I can't wait to see the final battle between all of our favorite characters in the next installment! It's sure to be an emotional end to one of my favorite series!

The movie captured my attention, and the action was well paced. This is no small feat, given that the first half of book 7 was quite slow and dragging in parts. However, this movie affirmed my suspicion that breaking book 7 into two movies was a bad call. This was the only HP movie that did not stand on its own, in my opinion. The movie was a series of events that, while interesting, did not comprise a full plot. With that being said, it is still a must see for any HP fan. I'll try to remain optimistic that Part 2 will feel like a complete movie.

the movie was stunning with breath taking landscape and effects. however was a little slow and felt like they could have spent more time explaining certain details instead on dragging on endlessly with no set direction. This movie had me on the edge of my seat. I loved the imagery and everything about it. The only thing I wasn't crazy about was the ending, although I know it was because there's a second part... but it still could've ended better.

I'm an avid Harry Potter fan but it's been over a year since I've read the book, so I viewed this release with fresh eyes and was not disappointed. Seeing the protagonists appear as young adults fit well with the progression of the story from the previous movie. The breakup and eventual reconciliation of Hermione and Ron could not have seemed more real. The chilling portrayal of the Ministry of Magic as a police state sent shivers up my spine as Ron, Hermione and Harry almost miss making their escape. On a technical side, I enjoy the Imax experience with the superb sound. But . . . I was disappointed that the movie was not released in 3D. Finally, the scenes in the woods, on the plane above the seaside cliff and in the wheat field so vividly captured the lighting and the feeling I experience when I am in such places. I had no trouble imaging that I was there. I will definitely see this movie again and will buy the DVD or Blue-ray disk when it becomes available.

One major problem with all Harry Potter movies is that a great deal of J.K. Rowling's little "sub plots" and adventures are cut in order to make a movie that will not go 4 hours at a time! However all things considered this Harry Potter movie was incredible and extremely entertaining. I can't wait for Part 2! I also can't wait for Parts 1 & 2 to come out on DVD, and I am sure now that the series is over they will put out a Complete Harry Potter DVD/BlueRay Collection! Then I can watch them over and over again! The one thing I must say that I am disappointed about was that I was looking forward to seeing Deathly Hallows 1 in 3D and that, according to the ushers at the theater the 3D was pulled at the last minute by the producers! Other than that I loved it!

I enjoyed this movie, but was very confused. I haven't read all the books and I think that would help. My impression was that the movie goes from one dangerous situation to the next for Harry and his friends. A bit over dramatic in places. Nonetheless, an entertaining movie. I really enjoyed the IMAX as well.

A lot of people are saying they found this one a bit slow at times but having seen it twice so far, I didn't find that to be the case at all; surprising since I did find parts of the beginning of the book rather slow. The pace was perfect, in my opinion, and the movie sticks very closely to the book, which is excellent. The Ron and Hermione relationship was portrayed perfectly, and just the right amount. My only complaint is that, obviously, I felt like I'd watched half a movie, though I'm a big fan of the decision to split the book into 2 movies; if they hadn't done it this way, WAY too much would've been left out. So overall, I highly recommend this.

HP7 is truly worth the ticket cost, especially the $15 for IMAX. I found it to be a bit slow at times, but easily making up for it with the AMAZING visual outdoor settings. WOW!!
HP7.2 will have to blow the top off b/c it's the end of an amazing franchise. 2011 can't get here fast enough.
