Some people have said they were dissapointed with this movie. Not me! It was amazing how well every scene was almost exactly as I pictured it in my mind. It's been intersting watching these characters grow up and evolve. The acting (especially by Emma Watson) was great. It was very frightening and distrubing at times, as it should be. The movie did an amazing job of conveying the tone and the darkness the book had. I loved it! I can't wait to go see it again!

The movie is good but it moves rather slow
I felt that this segment ended too abrupt .

Yates did a superb job (minus the dance scene in the tent between Harry & Hermione) of staying true to the book. There were places the movie dragged a bit, but otherwise, it was very well done.

The movie followed the book close enough to not annoy. If you haven't read the book it will be confusing and key ideas in the plot will be lost. Rupert has wonderful comedic timing and Emma is wonderful. Harry is Harry.

Somehow they took the boring half of the Deathly Hallows book and turned it into the best Harry Potter movie yet (and I loved Prisoner of Azkaban). The main reason was how strong the performances were. If they did this well on Part 1, I think Part 2 may end up being one of the best films ever made.

This is by far the movie that captures the essence of the book in the most pure way. This movie gives you a feeling of vulnerability and makes you feel scared which is what the characters are feeling. It is by far the best movie yet and its not even finished, cant wait for the second part!

I thought the movie was very well done compared to some prior installments of the Harry Potter series. I noticed that there were a couple of slow parts during the movie, but anyone who's read the book knows that the movie compressed a couple hundred pages of slow, yet necessary-for-the-subplot, material into a relatively short stretch of film. I did notice, as with some prior installments in the movie series, that right from the beginning of the movie, if you haven't read the book, you won't have any reference point(s) for what's going on. Additionally, I thought the acting in this movie was better than some of the prior installments. Maybe that's because the kids have grown up and have some good experience under their belts? Finally, I noticed that this movie covers the first 501 pages of the book, which leaves 258 pages (US Scholastic edition hardback) for the last movie. That suggests to me that the director (Yates) and writer (Kloves) may be planning to give great, detailed attention to the remainder of the saga, which IMHO is simply due diligence.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Well, my sister and I have seen every single Harry Potter movie since release and have seen all of them on each review day.
With high expectation for this movie we waited for its release. One thing I've learned is that the longer you wait for a movie and the more you are expectant of great things to come from it. The movie usually seems worse then when it really was. Well, this was not the case at all. In fact, we loved it!
This movie does a fantastic job of keeping you on your feet. It is extremely suspenseful and may even scare you even if you have read the book numerous times like myself.
The only reason I give this movie a 4/5 stars is simply because I felt that they left out a fair share from the book. I noticed that if you had never read the book that at times you may feel they go without explaining the current plot and setting. They seem to leave out a majority of the detail. Which, I know it's a movie and hard to carry over a perfect transition. But, they did a poor job on explaining the how they continued to get where they were.
With that said, the movie itself makes up for that! They give different twists from what actually happened in the book, so when I was expecting certain parts to happen, they didn't! I was always on my feet and never once took my eyes off the screen.
Great movie for the family to see, but I will say PG-13 may be pushing it for the younger crowd. It could invoke nightmares. I'm not too sure. It was a little vivid, but for my sister and my age (20 and 22, respectively) it was amazing!
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Part 1 of the Deathly Hallows was excellent. It stayed very true to the book and I was very happy to see that. I can't wait for part 2 to wrap up the series. The split point was done perfectly! If you haven't seen Harry Potter yet, go see it now! I think fans will be happy with this movie and it's staying true to the original vision of J.K. Rowling.

I've read all the books and have seen all the movies and this was by far the best movie. There are always things that would be better understood if the book had been read but this one was pretty clear. Not a feel good movie due to subject matter but an excellent job communicating the complexities of the book. Scenery was terrific, music brilliant and acting top notch. For Harry Potter fans a must-see, can't wait for part two.

I loved this one! Definitely the best of the series so far! Might be a bit intense for younger kids. Great action scenes. Kept my attention the entire film. There were changes from the books, but not so much so that the story was lost. I admit I did not like the Half Blood Prince. It was my least favorite of the series. But I think David Yates did a wonderful job on this one. My only disappointment is waiting until July for the rest of it!!!

Watching this, the first installment of the two-part finale of the Harry Potter series, I found myself reliving the book nearly page for page. Very little has been removed or altered from Rowling's novel. The acting is wonderful and the special effects enhance the experience without being 'overdone'. As we were walking out of the theater, my wife's first question was "I wonder when the next showing is?"

I was expecting a lot more action from some of the bigger characters in this movie. I feel like Harry, Hermione, Ron, Bellatrix, and Voldemort didn't perform anything spectacular in this film (such as was done at the end of movies 4 and 5) and that it continued what I feel to be a terribly slow build up (starting in movie 6) to hopefully a spectacular ending in part 2. I must put a disclaimer here and say that I have never read any of the Harry Potter books as I felt if I did I would just be dissapointed by the movies (like I hear most people said they are) Goblet of Fire still remains my favorite.

Wonderful adaptation of a great book. Most departures are welcome, couple were questionable, and some better than Rowling's own version. Nearly non-stop action. Effective story layering for the sake of time and viewer interest. Fantastic effects throughout. Comedic timing and sensibilities were wonderful.
Dark, violent, and slightly sexual at times all meriting the PG-13 rating. I will try to hold out from showing it to my 9 year old for a couple more years.
Highly recommended to Potterfans

This is by far the best book adaptation of any of the movies (except for maybe the first one)! It was more thrilling than the others and definitely a lot darker and scarier as well. They lightened the mood with jokes in a lot of the scenes which was much appreciated for those who tend to shed a few tears...
a few of the scenes were a little weird (hermione and harry dancing in the tent...there was awkward sexual tension)...but i would definitely say that this movie was amazing.

This is by far and away the best Harry Potter film to date. The actors have matured so much and the storyline is much darker and dramatic than any of the previous films. Of course there were some really comical scenes that are present in all of the films to help break the tension. You can really see the chemistry developing between Ron and Hermione. Still not feeling the love for the Harry/Ginny match. (FYI Daniel Radcliffe is SO HOT!) Could amost see Harry with Hermione, but we all know where the storyline goes so forget that and I think the Ron/Hermione matchup is a good one. Voldemort is amazing and the climax in the second movie with will be epic. There obviously were some key elements missing from the book, but what do you expect in a 2.5 hour movie. The ending definitely leaves you desperate to see the next film right now, but guess I'll have to wait until next summer.

I understand the need to make certain cuts when a book is made into a movie. Thus far in the HP series, I have been fairly pleased with those editorial decisions; not so for this last one. I truly disliked it and wished I had not seen it. If you are just a fan of the movies and haven't read the books, I suppose it is a nice little action-packed film. But if you read the book, I guess I can't believe you are so uncritical. Are you all just so in love with Harry Potter that a half-naked kissing scene (were they Adam and Eve? What the heck was going on there?) and an oddly and uncomfortably erotic Bella/Hermione scene (since when did Bella forget how to use the cruciatis curse?), perhaps that was enough for you.
Where was Voldemort's dramatic appearance at Godric Hollow? In what way was the story made better or the scene made shorter by NOT having Hermione and Harry actually drink polyjuice potion before visiting (like they do in the book) or changing back into themselves before at the Ministry of Magic? Not grabbing Moody's eye, but instead just letting the toad keep it? None of those things would have taken extra time. And what was this nonsense about Harry just skipping about, out in public when we all know the only other prevalent character in the 7th book was his invisibility cloak?! What will they make up now so that they can explain the magical appearance of the sword? They can't use the real explanation of the picture of Headmaster Black in Hermione's purse. I guess the theme that Snape was looking out for them all the time and not really a complete arse is irrelevant... And apparently Harry is now versed in ESP because somehow the goblin knew to lie to Bellatrix? And the addition of Doby killing/maiming Wormtail....yea, not so found of that. It seems strange to have Doby kill anyone, and if he's just maimed, well I better not see him anywhere else in the second movie because I will get up and walk out. And I'm really glad Hedwig saved the day in that first big scene; wouldn't want to remind people that Harry's tell-tale sign is expelliarmus. Nah, why keep that fresh in people's mind's so that his final encounter with Voldemort will be all that much more dramatic and poignant - Voldemort always goes for the kill, Harry, simply to disarm. Oh, and when, EVER does Harry simply just get scared of Voldemort and start calling him "You-Know-Who"? That was maybe one of the most frustrating and upsetting parts of the movie. The books work very hard to lay down that thought- that Harry and Dumbledore are the only people who have always spoken his name. The taboo would have taken two seconds to mention (it could have taken the place of the two seconds used for Hermione's ridiculous "Oh Harry, we made you a cake...." crap). It was just so disappointing to see this sudden switch without any explanation and to pass it off as normal. It was like a slap in the face to both Dumbledore and Harry Potter.
All in all, if you've never read the book, you'd probably like it. The scenery is gorgeous and the special effects truly special. But, please, true Harry Potter fans, I ask that you not let yourself be won over by these pretty lights and sweeping music; the author carefully constructed this book and built up these characters and plots for the first page of the very first book. Don't let yourself be dazzled and ignore the significant and often unnecessary changes that were made. Making a movie from a book is difficult, but it has a pre-made script, one that you should do the utmost to stick to.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

This was the best movie yet. Dan, Rupert & Emma's acting chops have really developed over the years & they are to be commended. There's a dance scene that's been added, but I thought it was a good touch. Poignant & sweet, it conveyed what they were trying to hold on to.
There's some nice action sequences that made the audience jump, humor of course but overall the movie has a sad serious quality which I think captures the book. The payoff will be in the next movie with the conclusion. If it's done right, next summer we should leave the theater more exhilarated than ever before when leaving a Potter film.
The material has been trimmed down quite a bit from the book & those that haven't read it may get lost. As a reader, I missed some sequences but I honestly was not disappointed. I didn't want it to end.
Children under 7 or 8 may need to wait to see it but I highly recommend it to everyone else. Talk to a Potter reader to fill in the gaps.

Well, if you're a Harry Potter fan, you must see this movie to begin closure. Harry is on his own now and trying to find his way - while people are trying to bring him to Voldemort for his demise. I had already read the book and I have to say I had flashbacks whenever anyone showed up who was going to die in the NEXT movie. I know it was silly, but I grieved during this movie, but, I saw it as kind of cathartic. I hunger for the final "comedy" or resolution. I saw this movie as being very dark, with a few comic scenes, but then it had to be.

This time they have gotten it right. The movie hung together beautifully and didn't have the choppy quality previous movies did from trying to cram too much plot into too short of a movie. I wish they had split the previous 3 movies into 2, then they could have done justice to them.

I loved pt. 1. They projected the movie in the exact way I saw it in my head. The way I pictured Fleur and Bills wedding, the cemetery in Godric's Hollow, the Lovegood's.. I was suprised, however, that Voldemort did not show up at Bathilda Bagshots, and only Nagini was present. There were a few changes from book to screen, but unlike the last 6 movies, this one has stayed most true to the book thus far. I can't wait until pt. 2. By the way, the Dobby scene would soften the hardest heart.
