I am a huge fan of the Harry Potter series and films but typically hate only seeing part of a multipart series. I had suggested that we should wait until part II is released and then see both pats together. My family overruled me. But although we all know there is more to the story, the ending did not leave one with the feeling that it just stopped becuase they ran out of film--as so many mutli-parters do.
It has now been years since I completed reading the series so I was not as fresh on some of the details that the film brought back to mind. Of course you can only cover a small bit of the complete work in a visual spectical that last just 2.5 hours, but one of these days I would love to see someone try. The movie is totally engaging and well worth an afternoon at the IMAX.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Excellent movie. Kept the entire family interested the entire time and ended up discussing it long after trying to figure out what would happen next. (For those that didn't read the book prior). Also, the clarity on the IMAX screen was great.

The movie itself is great, but IMAX adds so little to the experience (yes I have seen it both ways) that I must say it is absolutly not worth spending the extra money. I thought this would be true, but IMAX was the only showing available when a friend of mine could make it and I was proved correct. On the other hand, having read the books I expect IMAX will make a great difference in part two.

HP and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 stays true to the book. Best Potter Film yet. I did have to cover my 9 year old son's eyes during Ron's Horcrux vision and again with the snake attack, but it was more of me being a mom then him being too shocked or scared. The entire film was very well done and we can't wait for part 2.
My family and I started attending the midnight release of the Potter movies starting in 2005 with the Goblet of Fire, but this was the first time we've paid the extra money to view it in IMAX. It was well worth the money!
Our family has really enjoyed the added excitment of attending the first show. The kids dressing up and get to talk with other fans who are just as excited as we are. If you are a true fan and have never been to a midnight release I would recommend not missing out on the last one when Part 2 comes out.

As a fan of the Harry Potter book series I can say that people having read the books can take heart, this film isn't as much of an editorial change as The Half-Blood Prince was. I thoroughly enjoyed this film for it's portrayal of the book fairly accurately, however for people who have not read the 7th book or don't have back story on some random moments, you might be lost as to what exactly is being referenced. Overall I would say it kept me entertained and waiting to see what would happen next, despite where the storyline takes place.

I had an opportunity to see HP7 last night (I shouldn't have choosen the 10:40pm showing. I took my "5-Hour" to early in the evening and it wore off in the middle of the movie), and it was still a huge crowd! I enjoyed the tone of this movie and it was quite sobering, but not in a bad way. This really showed how much Harry and his friends have matured and evolved. Great story line, acting, and special effects! I didn't mind the length of the movie. I'd rather like more bang for my buck! I can't wait for Part 2!

I am an adult and have seen all of the Harry Potter movies. Granted, I have not read any of the books. My take on this movie is that it has a good storyline, but not a great storyline. Jumping from the last movie to this movie leaves a lot of stuff untold and missing. During the entire 150 minutes it was mainly 90 minutes of walking and traveling. There was some action and drama in the movie, but it was very limited. LOVE Harry Potter, but I could have written this portion of the book with no problem whatsoever.

Watching HP7p1 was a great experience. Really recommendable to anybody. But it is not an easy one, however. As the (second) last part of a series, I would suggest people to watch the first 6 movies before watching this one (and the next one). The background is necessary to understand most of what's going on. Especially when they try to introduce (and sometimes reintroduce) each character, which in a story as rich as this one, is a difficult task to achieve in just 2 hrs. and 30 min.
The story is solid, and well adapted from the book. The special effects are great to see, too. But it is the chemistry made by the cast what really makes this movie memorable in a way more serious and older people-oriented movies can't achieve. That is because you know these people have been together for years and they know their roles well. For this I must mention that the plot takes a few little 'sideroads' away from the book that on which the story is based. But movies have a different pase than books do, so they used that mentioned chemistry between the characters to move the story in a definitely enjoyable way.
In conclusion, I would definitely recommend this movie to anybody. Even if you don't like the Harry Potter fantasy that much, I would still suggest people to give one chance to the saga and be part of a story that defines a generation. In other words, find out why so many kids kept reading the books for hours and hours.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Big fan of HP, have all of the movies and watched all of the exclusives and previews before going to see this one in the theater. Emma Watson said it best that the audience will be on the edge of their seats through most of the movie wondering if HP and friends will make it through. And that is exactly how I felt through most of the flick. Great movie, definitely getting more mature as the characters themselves do. Can't wait to see the conclusion to this epic story in July!

I expected to be sorely disappointed being that I fell asleep on the Half Blood Prince and had to watch it 3 times just to take in all the movie (found it very very boring and poorly done). I was happy to be wrong with this one. This movie is very action packed much like the book. It remains relatively faithful to the book with the exception of some very key areas (all I will say is Wormtail....really? True fans will understand immediately upon seeing this scene). Overall, it was very well done and I can't wait to see the final chapter and to see this again (there's no such thing as seeing a HP film once....lol). Enjoy!!!

In every movie based on a book I see, I expect there to be parts missing or changed up. That is exactly what we get with this movie. Most of the changes that they made were tolerable.... The way Hedwig dies for example, and them going into detail about Hermione obliviating her parents.
I was really upset about how Hermoine and Harry enter Godric's Hollow. They are supposed to use the polyjuice potion, and they don't. They never once use the invisibility cloak in the movie and that is supposed to be one of the Deathly Hallows! They don't show Wormtail's hand killing him, or the radio program that supports Harry. They don't talk about how Voldermort's name is taboo, or show the semi-sweet goodbye with Harry and the Dursley's... Lots of other things were left out. Some that I feel were critical to the story, and some I feel were just an added bonus while reading.
It seemed in certain spots to jump to a different part without explaining how they got there. If you haven't read the books, you will be lost. I went with a group of friends. 2 had read the books and 2 had not (including my husband) and we 3 that read the books actually enjoyed the movie. My husband and our other friend were bored throughout the whole thing.
I love these movies! Regardless of what they leave out. I just wish in this one that they would have thought a little more before leaving things out or changing them. They ended it at a good spot, and they definitely leave you wanting more! I can't wait for Part 2!
Yes, I recommend this movie.

As a reader of the Harry Potter books I felt this movie followed the story well. I saw the movie with a "non-reader" and they said this movie made sense to them. The scenes were well done and the characters were well developed. As far as the ending is concerned, I felt it was a good place to pause the story. I am looking forward to seeing the last installment. I have seen this movie twice and will be going again over the holiday. I highly recommend it to everyone.

I can't say it was suspenseful, having read the books (multiple times) but at this point, I think most people have read the books too, and they go see the HP movies to see a visual intepretation of the stories. In this regard, the movie didn't disappoint.
The camping scenes drag a bit, but they did in the book too. However, the way the film brought to life exactly what I envisioned when I was reading the book was fantastic. I especially loved what the tent looked like on the ouside vs. the inside.
The movie goes deeper into the emotions of the main three characters than ever has been done before - and seeing them all getting angry with one another makes them much more realistic.
Over-all it was everything I expected it to be.

This movie was really great. I had reread the seventh book before seeing it in order to prepare myself. A lot of the scenes in the movie are taken straight out of the book, like the dialogue in the scene in the beginning where they all take polyjuice potion. The movie really stayed true to the book except in places where they took artistic license, which was good anyway.
The acting was excellent, as were the special effects. Although this movie doesn't include Hogwarts, it focuses on the 3 main characters and develops them. Rupert Grint had some really good acting.
They chose a really good place to end, which will also be a good place for the second movie to pick up from. All in all, this movie has all the elements of an exciting and gripping movie. Definitely a must-see.

I'm an adult and went with my daughter. This review may help other parents in deciding if you want to bring your kids. This movie proves that you can have it all without harsh language, gorry violence, and constant s*x. With all the prior hype that this was the 'darkest movie in the series', I was a bit worried that I come out of the theater all kinds of depressed. But not so. Yes, the content has grown up along with the Hogwarts kids. There are battles with the bad guys and the kids certainly hold their own. There are parts that make you jump out of your seat. There is a scene or two that is pretty harsh, torturous. However, the movie is classy enough not to show everything on screen. It has a ton of comic relief. Again, with all the prior hype of 'darkness' , I was very happy that this part of what we have come to know as HP was not lost. There is one scene that is rather quick, but a little risque. **Spoiler Alert** It has been well documented in the news, I'm not going to completely spoil it, but if you have young kids (7 or so), you may want to shield their eyes for a second or two when Ron is hallucinating that Harry & Hermione don't want him around. **End of spoiler alert**
I absolutely loved this movie. I was "wowed" by it. It had fear, tears, laughter through our tears, and sweet, tender moments. Stunning scenery and effects. Our young characters have grown up so beautifully and the young actors have done them an incredible justice. Jo Rowling has transitioned them brilliantly. It ended at a good place in the story. It's obviously a cliff hanger, but one we can live with until July 2011. Then again, I'm sure most of us have read the book and know the ending.
I'm sure I will see it a couple of more times before it goes to dvd!
Yes, I recommend this movie.

If you have read the books and are fanatic about Harry Potter, this is a Must See. The saga is coming to an end in a dramatic and thrilling manner. But make no mistake, the darkness and depression of war, death, horror and struggle abound herein. The movie is long, only to tell part one and set up the finale. Likeable, long-term characters die, throughout this chapter.
The use of horror dominates this passage, but the special effects for that function are exceptional. I was fully entertained by the movie, never feeling it was long, boring, or repetitive. The special effects were totally "natural" in that you don't see them as theatrical effects. Instead, you are amazed that such nightmares could be captured and replayed before you.
I'm NOT a reader of the books. I have seen all the movies, but continue to be confused by the names, places, and complex story. This version does little to help me in that regard. I end up with lots of questions about details that my HP friends have to help explain. But this episode is one of my favorites so far. Complex and Dark, yes, but thrilling and brilliantly produced and wanting to see more, definitely.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Very good on screen IMAX movie going experience and according to my wife apparently worth the split into two movies. That is to say the producers got more of the details from the book into the storyline by making it into two movies. The story is darker but compelling and true to life in that you see more if it through the eyes of the three main heroes. Most of the action takes place in remote forests and other desolate locations but the cinematography is brilliant.

WOW. This one continues in the same vein as the previous film: atmospheric, melancholy, scary, and quite well-made. It is relatively faithful to the book, and, like the book, is not for the very young. It does an excellent job of laying the foundation for the final installment. Loved every minute of it. Judging by the audience response (all adults, no children), others were favorably impressed, as well.
