Great movie - story line stuck pretty close to the book, important details covered. Special effects fantastic - nothing cheesy that made you think money was spared. I thought the acting was excellent - Harry, Ron, Hermione & friends showing worry / tension / strain due to the rising evil and their uncertainty in how to go about the task of finding the horcruxes. Even some of the deatheaters look a bit uneasy as Voldemort pays them attention.

The series would not have been complete without this movie. Of all the novels, however, the first half of The Deathly Hollows was the most difficult for me to read. It was a slow, twisting plot set-up for what turned out to be a phenomenal end. The movie was no different. I am sure that this will end up being my least favorite of the series, but it is still a good and integral movie.

I thought this movie was superior to the previous ones because it focused on the interrelations of the main characters. These actors have really grown into their parts and exhibited a depth of acting that was surprising and often moving. I do not recommend it for viewers under the age of 10 because of scenes of torture, etc. It is really an adult film.

I found this to be a perfect set-up for Part II which can't get here soon enough. I took friends with me to the IMAX who have never been and they were thrilled with the experience. While the movie was slow in places, I think it finally showed some of what the characters must be feeling in terms of stress...which adds to the back story. As a big fan of the story line, I could have had more, but for most this was probably enough to lead to the finale.

This was our first experience in IMAX for a movie and while at first it seemed quite loud to our ears once the movie began we were lost in the story. I love how the characters have evolved and that they followed the book quite closely. Each film gets better and we will anxiously await part 2-in IMAX! Well worth the extra cost.

I continue to be impressed with the translation of the books to movie. They truly come across as continuations of the story, being true to the books, rather than the typical movie "sequel." However, some base info was left out of the movie in some areas. I was very satisfied with the IMAX version in visual and audio effects. The actors continue to grow in their skills. Though the movie was over 2 hours long, I wasn't aware of the time passing. Well done!

This movie was great. I am an instant fan, and haven't been into the Harry Potter craze being that I have been an adult through the entire release of books and movies. Non the less I took my wife who is a fan and thought it was well made. The only issue I would have is if young fans want to see this one, it is way to adult with very scary themes, very sensual undertones, and much to realistic. As an adult it was enjoyable, and leads me to want to watch the others in their entirety. Two thumbs waaaayyyy up

My husband and I thought this movie was great, and we have seen all the others. What was really good from my point of view was that it was really true to the plot in the book ---- while some of the previous ones were not. It is a fairly complex book, and this was really well done. The effects were really creapy in IMAX. I personally don't understand reviewers who don't want any character development, as that is what I love about these books. The movie moved right along, even though you knew from the start that since it is in two parts it wasn't going to reach any startling conclusion. Can't wait to see the last episode. Go see it if you want to get re-involved in the books!

The movies kept getting better until this one, which was clearly designed as a marketing ploy to get one to: a. pay to read the previous books; b. pay to see the previous movies; or, c. essentially pay twice the amount for the movie coming out next summer. I felt cheated, particularly for $16.50 per ticket. The cinematography was second-rate and overdone compared to the others, little plot was laid down in three times as long as it should have taken, new book items were included (such as the mirror not seen before and with no explanation -- this is far different than the way other new information was introduced), and there was nothing IMAX-worthy about this episode. In contrast, I hope the next movie is not merely the opposite and thus so much action that there is no character interaction. If all I wanted was lightening bolts, I'd watch The Weather Channel. This was about the money, and that's too bad. It cheapened the franchise terribly -- and I was a big fan, despite my age.

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. The story is great, the acting was good and the special effects were incredible. Having just recently relistened to the book I did find that I tended to see where things were missing from the book instead of simply watching the movie but I won't do that again before the second installment. I also liked the extended role given to Dobby when fetching Mundungus Fletcher. Some scenes were not clearly understood unless you read the book and the hurried explanation provided by Ron or Hermione appears as a half-hearted attempt in doing so. The script definitely needs some work there. Also the tension created between Harry and Ron should have been more deliberately shown. Instead it was dealt with a bit hurriedly. So were Harry's visions of Voldemort - they were really confusing and fast unless you read the book. The destruction of the Horcrux and the Bathilda Bagshot scene were very well shot. Eagerly awaiting the second part.

I thought this was one of the best films in the series so far due to the story line and the fact that there is more suspense as we approach the conclusion of the series. It's been of great interest to see the young stars maturing over the years in their characters. The movie featured superb acting and directing and special effects. Our family can't wait for the final episode to be released in July 2011.

Does a good job starting the completion of the series. Audio volume was too up and down especially with the heavy accents. Why do the studios insist on the low volume conversation / loud special effect schtick?
I'm very excited to see if they can improve enough in Part II to overcome the fairly slow plot of this one.
