I was a little worried about what to expect after reading some of the early reviews, but I loved this movie! The people/critics who complain that it's 2 hours of boring talking in a tent, are NOT Harry Potter fans and DO NOT care about the characters. The characters have grown so much over the years and their bonds have matured and it's SO obvious in how they interact with each other now as adults. If you love the characters as I do, watching them bond and mature and interract is an important part of the story. Very well done!!
True Harry fans will NOT be disappointed.

This was the first movie I have ever seen in IMAX and what an experience it was. The directors hit this one on the nose. I plan to go back and see it again. I can't wait to see the second one.

This was split into 2 parts just to beat out Star Wars for all time grossing series. I found myself bored at times and thinking "this is just stretched thin". I assume the 2nd half will hold all of the action, but this truly didn't need to be made.

Awesome movie to me. Of course they strayed from the book in certain areas but that's to be expected. There was a great mix of action and story building/setting up part two. I'm truly excited for the next installment!

I have loved all the books and movies. This one was no exception. Though some complained it was a bit slow. They obviously didn't read the books to know this is a crucial part of the story. Can't wait for the next part, though it will be last. Guess nothing lasts forever.

My two daughter's and I had our first "IMAX" experience and seeing "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows" was definitely worth it.
The two hours and thirty minutes went by quickly, which of course is a sign of a good movie, and special affects were only out-done by the story line portrayal.
Though there were jumps/gaps not filled in which would have brought greater depth filling in those jumps/gaps would have lead to at least a four hour movie (accounting for the fact that it is a two-part movie) so logistically all in all it was a great presentation.
My 11 year-old, having read the book twice, gave it "two thumbs up"!

I could write a long review on how I really enjoyed this movie, but this is my most compelling argument: My wife wanted to see it again the very next day. I had to drag her to see Star Wars and LOTR. She's not a Fantasy / Sci-Fi person. Yet here she was suggesting we go see it again. That's all you need to know.

I was actually a little hesitant to see this one, only that I remembered that the first half of the Deathly Hallows book is a little slow. However, the 2 1/2 hours just flew by! It has way more detail than any other moive, and the plot development flows really well because they have the time to explain. Everyone is back, and some of your favorites are killed off. Movie was really well balanced, and is really stunning to watch (no pun intended!). Definitely worth the money to see it on the IMAX screen!

It's clear to see that the HP movies are "growing up" in style just as the audience they are geared towards has grown. This has the feel of an adult movie, without the gore or abundance of violence so prevalent in other movies now. Some of the stylistic cinematography is a little distracting (did there really need to be so much of the hand-held camera running through the trees?), but it puts the audience member in the state of confusion the characters are supposed to be experiencing, so it does draw you in to the movie even more. Overall, as the actors mature the movies do get better (Emma Watson has improved by bounds over the first movies) and although the IMAX screen was bigger than a standard screen, it was not as big as I was hoping or expected (this is the first IMAX movie I've paid for in a regular theater). Still, I thoroughly enjoyed the movie.

Being part of the last installment made for a tall order, which the director completely fulfilled. Very satisfying for those fans who've read the books and wanted to see a full story - great set up for an epic ending. Those who've only followed the movies might have had a few questions since the director did manage to cover a lot of things, some of which had been neglected in previous installments, but without making the scenes feel contrived or out of place. Can't wait to go see it again!

The producers, screenwriters, directors, et al had a LOT of expectations to live up to, and they satisfied most of them.
Anyone who has read Book 7, which I've done twice, knows that there are many chapters where there's not much action taking place but there's a lot of dialogue, 3rd-person story-building, and planning by Harry, Hermione, and Ron. I was worried that the movie would get dragged down by those scenes, but it didn't.
The makers did a great job of keeping it suspenseful and packed with just enough action.
Given that the 2 1/2 hours really flew by, I wish they hadn't deleted so many scenes from the book. Either that, or they had somehow managed to explain some of the plot that you can only get from the book. If you've only seen the movies and never read the books, you're going to be lost in a few places, but it'll still be enjoyable.
And for goodness sake, if you don't know what a "MUGGLE" is, PLEASE stay home and rent the other 6 movies or better yet, READ THE BOOKS!! Honestly, there was this young lady a few seats away who was clueless.
My wife and I are definitely going to see it again, maybe 2 or 3 more times.

I have not been a huge fan of the Potter films because I thought they deviated from the books too much. Not this one! This is how all the films should have been made, by the books! Granted, some stuff was left out, but overall I was thoroughly pleased! I just saw it on Saturday and I am ready to see it again! Not sure I can wait until June/July for Part 2! Completely superb Potter film!!!

I read this book three times! It was a very exciting read. The director of the film, David Yates, did a fine job. As for the translation from the book to film, there was so much that was missing or altered in a way that leaves gaps. For example: (if you had not read the book), why and how is RAB so important; a visual of how RAB got the locket and how Creecher was involved in this endeavor would have added a great deal to the story; the use of one of the Hallows, the Invisibility Cloak, never appeared (no pun intended) once in the movie. Perhaps making this last installment of the book to film into three part sequel would have covered better some of the gaps. Daniel Radcliff, Ruprt,Grint, Emma Watson and the rest of the cast were good. The cast has matured nicely into their characters. We will have to see how true to the rest of the book/ story the next and final film will be. Can't wait.

Though much darker than any HP in the series, this movie was very entertaining and fulfilling. As a huge fan of the series, my expectations were met and then some. Seeing this movie clearly showed why they needed to split the final book into 2 movies as there is too much story to tell within a single 2.5 hour film. The action scenes were well done and exciting. One of my few concerns is to move the story along, Harry literally uses phrases like "I don't understand." The explanation that follows usually is just a summary of knowledge gained in 100 some pages of the book. All around, this is a great addition to the series and I am already planning to see the finale!

It's Part I, so not too many conclusions. Having read the books, I understood a lot of what was going on, but for those in the theater who did not read the book, it could be a little confusing. But for a true fan of the books, it is exhiliarating to see the book come to life on screen. The movie creators had an incredible task to condense the story down to the most important parts, and I believe they succeeded. A few of my favorite parts got the ax - the messages to Harry written on the remains of his parent's home, the statue in Godric's Hollow and Kreacher's story - but the essential pieces to the story were there and were done beautifully. Can't wait for Part II!

I can see why this book was broken down into two movies. The essence of the novel was captured perfectly, and the break point for Part II was at the right place. Anyone who doesn't enjoy the movie has not read the books.
Having grown up watching reading the books and watching the movies with my children, it will be a shame when the series reaches its conclusion.

This movie was much better than the Half-Blood prince one. There are a lot of things going in the movie, though it is easy to keep up.
I watched it in IMAX, it was nice to see the movie on a larger screen, but it was not really what I expected. So, if your going to see the movie I suggest save t he extra cash for popcorn and a soda and watch it the normal screen.

My chief complaint is that they used the same ham-fisted editor (or at least the same editing style) as Half-Blood Prince. Many arcane details are left in with no explanation at all. The time (only a few seconds each, in many cases) that should have been spent explaining was instead devoted to needless special effects. If you've read the books, you'll find DH1 to be a good visualization of the action. If you haven't, or if it's been a while, you'll be completely lost within minutes and have to spend the next two and a half hours being thoroughly confused.

My five year old really loved the movie. I thought it was good, but there could have been a better lead up to the ending. I understand it is part one and I hope that the second part is a little more in depth to the book. Action scenes were good, but again, there were parts of the story that lagged.

Grown up characters, realistic interpesonal dynamics, great scenery all made the "dark times" come alive. Two disappoints for me--left out the story of James, Lily and Harry from Voldemort's point of view; accents were a little thick at times and dialogue was muddled (not muggled) in places. Definitely recommend, though
