A hate to say this, but it is time to bring all of this wizardly silliness to an end. The magic that carries these characters from one scrape to another is disjointed and puzzling. The pieces of the elaborate mystery are being drawn together for the ultimate showdown between Lord Valdemort and Harry – let’s get on with it. The swords, wands, medallions, rings and spells are being collected so that Harry and his cohorts can live happily ever after. The one good part of the film is the adolescent tension that develops among Harry, Hermione and Ron. Just as the film might give us something real, an evil doer shows up to take us off on another flight of phantasmical fantasy. We have to wait until May 2011 for the final episode.

Maybe I'm a little biased but I can honestly say this is by far better then all of the past Potter movies. It stayed pretty true to the book, there was plenty of action (which I was worried about because the book lagged a little in this section), and the actors have really come into their own (as opposed to the first couple of movies where they were pretty bad). I was captivated the entire time and, like most in the theatre, groaned when it had to end. That being said, I feel like if you haven't read the books you may get quite lost in all of the talk of horcruxes etc. I've read this book several times but it's been awhile and I had to think back on some of the things after the movie was over. But overall, wonderful film and by far the best in the series.

I thought this was a great movie. I have seen all the others, numerous times in fact and this was the BEST so far! In some of the movies I think important parts are skipped over but this one seemed to hit all the great parts and displayed them beautifully. I am just glad I didn't go to the midnight showing, I don't think I could have taken all the kids, big & small, running around with their wands yelling EXPELIAMUS!

I was very please with the film. It was very well done and didn't feel too dragged out as movies with journeys often do. The ending was also not too frustratingly cliffhanger like. I'm still very excited for Part two, but did not feel overly anxious at where Part one has left off.

I love the Harry Potter Series. This one is the darkest so far and leaves you wanting MORE. There is a death of one of my favorite critters, don't want to give it away for those who have yet to see the movie. Ron & Hermine are really starting to show their feelings and yes there is jealousy between Ron & Harry. The trio are formadable and will overcome the evils of the dark lord. I can't wait to see the last show but will be sad to see this wonderful series come to an end.

A different feel than the previous movies: darker, deadlier, and more "adult". Certainly it follows the books in this regard, and I'm not complaining.
It's a well-crafted movie. I don't expect less.
On the downside, it feels stunted. At two and a half hours, it's plenty long, but many of the characters get only brief times on screen that I really wanted more of: Snape, Tonks, and Neville to begin with. Even Draco is shorted.
Yeah, some of it had to be cut to fit in feature length. And I suspect that there will be a DVD/Blu-Ray release with extended footage sometime later.
Overall, a good movie experience.

The first half of this film was full of long shots and poses with little dialog. The action started to pick up toward the end, and I expect Part II will be action-packed. This is consistent with the book, which was also lengthy and slow.

I was very curious to see how this movie was going to flow given the fact that so much has been left out of the movies that were in the book and JK makes sure to tie up EVERYTHING even from the first book in the final book. I think they have done a great job even though the first installment was a little slow. I can't wait for part 2!

Well done. It needed to be split into two parts to avoid compression in the story; the days of the four plus hour film are long gone. This is a major pick up from the last few editions in the series and it could be one of , if not, the best. In the tradition of the series, the sweeping cinematography was excellent and the direction was very good. Worth viewing on the big screen. There is good action and it is quite suspenseful, and good use is made of the culminating character development. If you have seen the others, this is not to be missed, and you will be impatiently awaiting the final chapter. If you have not seen all of the series to date, be advised that you must view each edition in order before viewing this film or you will be wasting what could have been an excellent experience.

So it's not the best movie ever and it's not the most action packed of the Potter series, but it is very well done. I found it relatively accurate to the book and it cleaned up a lot of what was screwed up in the previous movie. Generally it was a bit slow paced, but not boring. The first half of this book was all about the journey and the journey was a bit slow, but important.

i am 26 and a HUGE fan of the harry potter series. after reading all of the books, i thought that the last couple of books could have been two-part movies, as well- so i was SUPER excited to hear that this one would finally split it up. i brought my fiance to opening night and we LOVED it. even at two and a half hours, there is still a ton of the story that was left out, but the darkness to this movie... the feeling of unease you have for the characters as the plot continues to build... aaaah, it was great :) and see the IMAX!

The movie was quite entertaining and engaging though a bit long. Highly recommended for adults (young and old). I was fully prepared not to like this movie for several reasons... one of which being that I felt like the book dragged on an on and the second of which being the deaths of a few of my very favorite characters. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. the movie covered the story exceptionally well while eliminating the "will-you-just-get-on-with-it" feeling I had from the book. Even the death of my favorite characters were handled well (one was handled very poignantly even though I sat through it in tears). I really feel like this was the best Potter movie yet. I can hardly wait now for the last installment.

A lot of the movie seemed different from the books, but that was to be expected. I have been a huge fan of the Potter books and movies for years and this movie did meet my expectations. If you've read the books, you'll think this is the best Potter yet because it catches all the main elements of the book. If you just caught the movies, you'll have to pay closer attention to the details to understand the whole story but the details are there if you look for them. I was impressed with the acting as they continue to pull off the increased maturity level of the charaters. This was a great set up to the finale!!

I'm a huge fan of Harry Potter. I've read the books and have seen all the movies, more than once, but this one, part 1, has fallen far short of all the others. It was boring, unimaginative, dull, slow paced and jumbled. If you hadn't read the books, you really had no idea of what was happening to their friends and family back in the wizarding world and the stress level and emotional torture that Hermione, Harry and Ron were really going through, the movie never conveyed it properly. I hope part 2 is much better.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

The movie was great, but unfortunately, it needed one of those scrolling text for info missing. The book describes the deathly hallows much better and links them. There's a lot more "research" in Godric's Hollow. But the sequences and action was wonderful, and I can't wait for the next (and sadly last) one to come out in June.

This is an excellent addition to the series. The best part is that it doesn't lose any of the details of the book in the process. Excellent.

As any adaptation goes, not everything will make it into the movie, so some fans will probably have complaints but all in all I thought they did a good job of bringing out the important points of the book. Kept me interested from beginning to end.
