I love the Harry Potter books and have seen a couple of the movies, my husband has read only the first book and I was worried that this one was going to be too complicated for someone who didn't have a lot fo background plot knowledge, but we both thoroughly enjoyed it. I loved seeing the people and places I knew come to life, and he enjoyed the action and the characters--says he didn't miss the background at all. Emma Watson's particularly great in this one!

Starts with a tearful but silent farewell to some of the families and characters, then like a gunshot the action slams you out of nowhere. Very intense and exciting. You get a little peak inside Valdamorts inner circle which I have been waiting for. Slows down a little in the second half of the movie during all the travel. They stayed pretty close to the book. The best Harry Potter movie yet. Part 2 will be an explosion of action and fun slowly mixed with tears and emotion and I cant wait!

Having read all the Potter books, I felt that this movie would be the slowest of them all just due to content. Yes, it was slow comparatively to the rest of the movie series, but it was managed really well in the film medium (at least IMO). Can't wait for the next one! An absolute delight! If you read the book you anticipated some slow spots but do not let this deter you!! The effects were spectacular, the movie was true to the book. This movie was surprisingly true to the book, given David Yates' prior track record with the Potter movies. I do regret, however, that he left out Harry's internal struggle with choosing between the Hallows and the Horcruxes.
Also, Yates has rarely included scenes with Harry's invisibility cloak in past movies. I guess he hasn't figured out, yet, how to do that particular effect. Seems like the cloak should have, at least, been mentioned, though, considering it is one of the Deathly Hallows.

I really enjoyed the film as did our friends. Some of us had read the books and some had not and all enjoyed this film. However, it opens with a torture (and death) scene which was a bit much for the childern seated directly behind us. The kiddies went on to ask a ton of (loud) questions during the film. There are some very dark scenes and some complex plot and dialogue stretches in this film which, in my opinion, are just not suitable for younger viewers. the film was well paced and very artful. Leave the kids at home and let the rest of us enjoy this film. I am very much looking forward to the final installment.
It was a waste to pre-select our IMAX seats because the theater staff were letting people sit wherever they wanted. What is the point of assigned seats when the staff ignore the assignments???

I purposly didn't re-read the book before this movie (it's never a good idea), so they may have left parts out that I didn't catch. The parts I noticed that they left out, were okay with me. I thought they did a great job and I can't wait for the next one. I paid the extra fee for the IMAX experience, and I don't think I'll do that again. It was cool, but in my opinion, not worth $16.

Saw it on Imax and loved it. The complexity of Harry's personality really shows now. Daniel expresses so much in subtle ways. His eyes tell a wealth of emotions. This movie is paced very differently than the others. It does not stand alone as a feature. You really need to see the previous movies to understand the context. This jumps into place assuming the audience knows the back story. No time is wasted. It doesn't recount for newbies. During much of the movie, the audience shares the frustration along with Harry, Ron and Hermione as they try to find their direction in a world that has shaken them to the core. The shell-shock is deeply experienced. I've seen other reviews that see this time as just boring drawn out scenes. But those who truly know these characters will be moved. The kids are wounded to their soul. There is no way to express that without letting the audience experience it with them. Be ready with a hanky. Even though you know the story, some of the scenes are heartbreaking. (Dobby) There is action in this film but its not an action packed ride. The action that is there, however, is amazing and riveting. This isa movie that thrills and chills. We were near the front of the line in the sold out showing. Even arriving 2 hrs early, we still were a bit back in line. Most people had a copy of the book and sat on the floor reading until showtime. As the previous crowd came out, they were not saying much. We expected excited people coming out of the movie and instead they were somber. It concerned many of us in line that perhaps the movie wasn't very good. But as we exited the theatre ourselves, we were equally as quiet. Be prepared for an intense ending that leaves you catching your breath.
(Watch out for Nagini!! She just might get you....seriously)

I was introduced to the Harry Potter series by my oldest granddaughter and we have seen all the movies together. Naturally we had to see this one, and really enjoyed the IMAX version. This one really moves, in my opinion, and keeps you on your toes. I know they had to leave some of the book out, but I think they did pretty good in keeping the story line going as close as possible. I've read all the books before, but had to go back and start reading this last one again after seeing the first half. Really looking forward to the 2nd half of this one!

I knew, walking into the theater, that this was the beginning of the end. I remember the first time I read the book that I could not put it down. It was going to be very difficult to live up to my imagination this time. While I have been disappointed in the past (OOP as an example), I had my hopes high for DH. I can still remember when I read "The Seven Potters", I had this wonderful scene in my mind, and I could see how (with a ton of CGI) this would look on the big screen. I was not disappointed! Also, for what seemed to drag on forever in the book (hiding in the forest), was handled really well in the movie.
Kudos to the three young actors for bringing these characters to life, and in true form.
Just as Rowling's books got darker with each one, so did the movies. This one seemed to be a little more accurate to the storyline, however I still wonder how they will make up for not showing Hermoine and her sock-knitting for the freedom of house elves...

I thought that Deathly Hallows Part I was done very well and was amazingly faithful to the book. I saw the iMax version and loved the projection and sound.
However, there were too many scenes where all Harry (and even Hermione and Ron) seemed to do was sit and stare to show their angst. It slowed the movie down too much. I bet they could have either cut off about 10-15 minutes or used those minutes to give movie goers who hadn't read the book more insight into what was going on.
I have read the book twice, and even I had to referring mentally to the plot in the book to understand what was happening in some scenes. For example, my son, who has not read the book, didn't know what had happened the first few times that people disapparaited. Thirty seconds explaining this the first time it was used would have helped his understanding a lot.
Nevertheless, this is an excellent movie, and I will go see it again.

Two and a half hours wasn't enough to complete the final Harry Potter film, and I am glad! With the truncated films for "Order" and "Prince" I am glad WB decided to do this one right.
Now did it suck to have the movie end where it did you might ask? The answer is, no. (Spoiler alert) the film ended at the darkest point it could. Evil is triumphing, heros are dying, and Voldie hag acquired his weapon to kill Potter and the heros bury one of their own.
Not since the Empire Strikes Back and Revenge of the Sith have movie goers felt so hopeless, has evil prevailed.
Enjoy the bitterness if defeat, Hogworts fans, for the final act, while still dark, end deadly, will good finally triumph.
As far as the film in general, it tended to drag a bit while the heros jumped from location to location deciding what to do next (same beef I had with the book), but I understand why it was done in both places.
Acting was great and audio visual was superb in IMAX. For Harry Potter movie and books fans, this film should not disappoint!

I went to this movie not nowing what to expect as I was not a fan of the last book, but found that they had done an excellent job. It was so good I found that it gave me a whole new perspective of the book. It was so good that they time flew. I would recommend this movie to anyone.

This was OUTSTANDING. I'm 63 and my grandson is 15 - we both came out saying it was incredible. Very true to the book, which I just finished again. The characters have grown in their acting ability and Hermione really comes into her own in this one. Plenty of action and even some moments where I jumped! Also just watched all the others again in a marathon before seeing this. This one is in the top 2 on my list. Will definitely see it again.

The gloves come off on this film. No holding back. It is darker and more violent. Also you are expected to have seen the past films or read the books because there are far fewer explanations given in this film. The action was thrilling and the drama was tear jerking. Cant wait for part 2. Woo!

I think this is the best adaptation from book to movie that the Harry Potter series has done. I just re-read the book and very few things were left out. The movie is very dark, as is the book, and might scare younger children - it scared me at times. I thought the action scenes were great and the animation sequence was inspired! I can't wait until the second part comes out this summer.

As in all the later Harry Potter Movies, the film just doesn't match up to the book. But, you have got to expect this. I had to explain several things to my husband (who hasn't read the books) so that he would better understand what was going on. If you understand that there is NO WAY that a film can portray what the book truely offers, then this is a good movie and obviouly meant to leave you hanging with lots of questions. Ready for the last one and in the meantime plan to get my husband the final book in CD form so he can know what is really going on and we can enjoy the movie in silence!....Saw this in IMAX experience theatre....couldn't tell any difference than any other large screen......and there were no kids in my theatre....all adults with a few possible High School aged thrown in.....

After being totally disappointed with the Half Blood Prince, the Potter series has found redemption in the Deathly Hallows! The Radcliffe/Grint/Watson trio were also spot on. The magnitude of the task along with the despair the three heroes are faced with followed that of the book and I was relieved that the creators finally nailed it! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!
