This episode was one of the weakest of the lot in my opinion. There was too much wandering around the woods and actors staring at each other trying to capture "a moment". I knew the close would not be satisfying since it was part 1 of 2 but it certainly caught me by surprize. Seemingly out of the blue the credits just started rolling up on the screen, and me thinking "what the heck?"
The acting was great overall but the story line and production was very weak. Maybe I was expecting more since the other Harry Potter movies were so outstanding. I just hope the final chapter will live up to all of our expectations. I kept thinking that they made a huge mistake breaking this last book up into two movies. Seems like things were just stretched out to sting everyone along so they could make more big bucks by having "one more go" at the movie going public's pocketbook. I was really astonished to find out that this movie pulled in around $400 million world wide over the opening weekend!!! OMG!
P.S. Seeing this in an IMAX theater was really cool but the cost was about triple from what I pay at my local "regular" theater. I just wish it was another of the Harry Potter movies I went to the trouble and expense to see at an IMAX theater.

Awesome, all of it... Go see it, Its fantastic. Loved the entire movie, I enjoyed everything. Brilliant overall; the acting, the characters, the scenes, thier wardrobe, and all the scenery. I cannot wait to see the last part of this EPIC movie. I am definitely going to miss this movie when it ends. It has been a magical journey, I wish if this movie did not end, and I was hoping to see them older and still in this move. I love Daniel, Rupert and Emma, they are brilliant.. I'm going to see it over and over again..

This movie gets 9 stars! In short, the movie definitely met my expectations and is well worth seeing. My problem with some of the previous Harry Potter movies (though I still like them very much) was how they did not quite follow the book as well as I would prefer. I was thrilled when I discovered the final would come in two parts, because the books have so much detail that can't all be expressed in a simple 2-hour movie. The first part of The Deathly Hallows covered the story very well, and the special effects left nothing to be desired. I can't wait for the second part!

I read the reviews of this movie and was worried. Our family has loved the books and the movies, which is rare because usually movies are a complete disappointment if you have read the book first. But both book and movies have been magical. I loved the movie. It was such an expression of the book that I was pleasantly surprised. I still am wondering if the reviewers are sometimes too jaded, or don't have kids...or both. If you are a Potter fan you will not be disappointed.

Impressive start, story very much loyal to the book, keeping most of the details, a few good added scenes such as the dancing one, and a coherent narrative (missing from the last two movies in my opinion). Much better than I'd expected. I'd recommend it to all Harry Potter fans. You won't be disappointed. I can't wait to see the second part.

I enjoyed the movie but feel that they are leaving out a lot of important information from the book. If you have not read the book you might not understand much of the movie. But the acting is great especially by Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley) and Ralph Fiennes (Voldemort). I would have given it five stars if they had not edited so much.

I'm glad they lightened up the backgrounds. It was much easier to watch and see what was going on than in the HalfBlood Prince. While not perfectly true to the story, I could see the reason for the shortcuts. Great scene at the Ministry! Didn't catch that Imax and 3D aren't the same, but I got it now....

HP & the Deathly Hallows Part 1 was excellent. I jumped in fear, I laughed and I cried. It was well written and followed the book well. After the horrible adaptation of "The Half-Blood Prince" we were very worried about this film when we heard the same director would be handling it (and film 8). However, we were pleasantly surprised to find that this film did a better job of covering bases than the last.
As always, there are things to leave out when adapting a book to film, but we felt, for the most part, those things were minor in the whole scheme of things. Overall, it wasn't as dark as we'd feared (some early reviews sounded as if the cinematography was done in the half-dark) and funny bits were scattered throughout to give some relief from the somber tone.
Casting has been consistently well done throughout all the films, and it was lovely to add Bill Nighy as Rufus Scrimgeour (albeit briefly) and Rhys Ifans as Xenophilius Lovegood..
We are eagerly anticipating the 8th and final {sob} film.

As all who read the book know, this is a bleak part of the story, particularly the opening parts, which this movie sets up. The acting, special effects were excellent, but this is not a feel-good movie and I'd recommend all parents see it before bringing little ones expecting the usual Harry. Now I cannot wait for part 2.

This is a great movie! They did a great job of staying true to the book. I like where they split the movie for Part 1 and Part 2, and I think you will enjoy it too. If you have been a fan of the other movies then you will be very happy. I

I LOVED THIS MOVIE!!!!! It was so incredible I was on the edge of my seat the whole time.. I stress that this is "NOT" for the younger crowd... There is alot of PG 13+ scenes and ite going to be hard to explain to your kids why its not. I will say that this movie left me wanting more!!! That DAMED Evil Voldemort.. & what happened to his face, what made him that way?? I LOVED IT!!!!! and want to see it again, to absorb what I merely watched the 1st time.

Solid, often dazzling, advance of the plot. Visually superb (especially the travel scenes – though the need for travel never really explained as it was in the book, a minor failing if it is a failing at all). Unavoidably suffers from the lack of the story end that will come in Part 2. The animation of the tale of the three brothers is worth the price of admission alone.

Just in case you missed it, Harry Potter is NO LONGER a child's bedtime story. It is great for the teen age minded kids although there was a brief, animated, suggestive nude scene. Would highly recommend in IMAX. Will be nice in 3D too (this summer). Must see for mature viewers.
