Saw this movie 11/23 at our local iMAX theatre. Reserved seats, fabulous sound and huge digitally enhanced screen made this a better experience than any of the previous HP movies for me. Having just re-read the Deathly Hallows probably made me a bit hypersensitive to bits of the story that were left out. I thought some of the camping scenes could have been sacrificed (the HP Hermione dance scene would not be missed; the scenery was lovely, but passage of time and such has been handled more efficiently) for more development: in the escape from Little Whinging (never got to meet Tonks' parents) , at the wedding (Ron's aunt woefully underdeveloped), at Grimmauld Place (Remus' visit should have been included; Lily's partial letter, too; the improved relationship with Kreacher), the interrogation at Malfoys' (HP never talked to the Goblin about saying the sword was fake; the importance of that to the search not developed fully) and the escape to Bill and Fleur's place. Nonetheless, far more true to the text than previous episodes. The crew also seems to be perfecting the technique of showing wizardry in action (apparation appears almost fun and quite spectacular). Sorry there was so little Snape, so little Bellatrix, etc., but that followed the book. Radcliffe and Watson were their usual workmanlike selves, but Rickman, Fiennes Ifans, Nighy, Felton and Grint and many of the rest of the supporting case were spectacular.

Loved it. This ones alot darker than the rest. They did a really good job with this movie staying as close as they could to the book. Much better than Half Blood Prince! Can't wait for the final at least we only have to wait 8 months this time!

I've read and loved all of the books, so seeing the movies was a given. While I have enjoyed all of the movies, this movie, Part 1 of 2 for the last installment was very true to the book. The characters have developed well, and much of what happened within the book, even miniscule details, were in the movie which was great. As well, they took the time to really show the enchantment and magic within the movie.
However, since the last book was a very serious one, the movie is also very serious. This is not as light and mystical as some of the other movies and can be very dark at times. This is also the slower half of the book as it develops into the epic finale of the series.
Overall, they stayed true to the book, worked their cinematic "magic" and ended the movie in a part that makes sense, but leaves you wanting more. It was an excellent movie, and I would happily go see it again in theaters and will definitely buy it when it comes out.

Very much enjoyed the movie and looking forward to the last part in July. it was great on the IMAX screen. I felt the part about the need to move the muggle family members was not developed, explained, and was disjointed. A few comments or a scene could have helped much. Those who had not read the book did not know what was happening. I thought the camping scenes were a nice addition, but it was not clear why they were going where they did--unless you had read the book. Good special effects, I look forward to seeing it again and again!

This movie is the second to last of the movies and conveys the story in a serious almost gloomy way. There is discourse between the three main characters similar to that of the principles in the final Lord of the Rings movie. In battling the evil Lord, the threesome experience little relief in the way of joy or happiness which can leave the viewer feeking as though he or she has just experienced a tragedy. It is well directed and the actors have grown to present one hect of a performance. It is a definite must see, but caution for children as their is no happy ending ...YET

Great movie, that should only be seen in IMAX. I feel like the producers and editors considered skipping a lot of the "camping" scenes, but felt that it was a good way to build the story line of the last book. Can't wait for the last installment of the series.

The movie matched the book very well, having the same dark tone. It matched the text much more closely than the last few movies, but like all movies based on books, there were some changes (makes me glad they decided to split the long book, rather than cut much out). The action was great as well. My only complaint is that the movie ended on a sad note, which made me leave the theater more sad than excited. As usual, the movie had some funny, and some happy parts, but much of it reflects the desperation that the world is in now that Voldemort's power is growing.

I'm glad I saw it in IMAX form. you're right there. I think the movie was worth the wait. there are things they left out from book. figured it would all be in there cause they're splitting it up. Got to say, if you haven't seen any of the movies or read books....why go? I liked all the settings and really am anxious for the 2nd part to come. I don't think any other film garners this much attention. Hype? yup. well worth it too. Terrific. would I see it again? probably. ;-)

Deathly Hallows Part 1 followed the storyline fairly well. (not as detailed as the book of course!) This movie seemed to be primarily character development. It definitely dragged and dragged and dragged. Despite the slow pace I enjoyed the movie. The funny parts were very funny and I enjoyed seeing the small details in the background scenes--especially all the the houses visited. I think everyone should see it at least once on the big screen for the effects.....but wait for the Dvd for your 2nd viewing. We all should expect an action packed Part 2 Ending...Have fun watching! Previews before were awesome as well!

This episode was the slowest moving picture I have had to endure. With characters stolen from Lord of the Rings and walk through the forest to nowhere (also as bad as Lord of the Rings), I thought this would never end. When we reached the end, all I recalled was a walk through the woods with a smashed medallion. This segment could have been 30 minutes instead of 2.5 hours. BORING

This was the most amazing harry potter movie in the world!!!!!! Everyone acted so well... Hermione was epic and smart as ever, Harry as heroic, and Ron as dumbish and funny. The movie followed the book exactly, despite some moments where the director lightened up the scene. I would recommend this movie to everyone, but you'll enjoy it more if you've already read the books. (Tip: when you sense that something scary is going to happen: it is! Close your eyes or prepare for an amazingly epic and freaky scene.) The ending was a really great cliffhanger (I cried when it ended! :D) I can't wait for part 2 coming in july. This was the BEST MOVIE EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wouln't say I'm a huge fan of the series (some movies I just waited for it to come out on video), however this film was more "adult " than the others and held my interest for the full 2 hours and 30 min. I will say if you had not seen or read the privious books/film, most likely you'll be lost in whats going on.
