This movie was incredible. The IMAX experience is unsurpassed. This movie, in my opinion, is the most true to the books thus far. Excellent cinematography, excellent acting, everything is just perfect. Even if you have read the books, and know what's going to happen (like most people, I'm assuming) it is truly an experience to see this movie, there are moments that make you jump and scream and cry and whirl you around the emotional spectrum. It's just amazing. I'm going to see it again for sure. It's also interesting to see where exactly they cut off between parts one and two. So don't let anyone ruin it for you!!!
Yes, I recommend this movie.

This movie was actually a good movie! I went in expecting to be disappointed like I have been with the rest of te Harry Potter movies, though Ié gone to see them all anyway since I'm an avid reader of the books, but I wasn't! Of course, there were parts that were left out or changed, but the quality of the movie made that all ok. Maybe it's because JK Rowling took back creative rights and she was a producer this time. I don't know. All I know is that I would recommend going to see this movie, to both readers of the stories and non-readers. It was really, really good. This was actually my second time seeing it after the midnight premier.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Most amazing movie of my year!! I HIGHLY recomend seeing it in IMAX!!!!!!!
Though, I would have been willing to wait a couple extra months in order to have all of the movie in one really long film. They did it for Lord of the Rings and for Titanic so why not make one 4 or 5 hour movie but they could do an intermission at 2.5 hours. They do it in live theater all the time. Now I will have to wait for 6 months before the next part comes out.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Thrilling and enchanting from start to finish. No Hogwarts, no Quidditch, just good old fashioned Horcrux hunting and plenty of Lord Voldemort sightings.

Went with my husband and 3 boys, who are in their early 20's. We all enjoyed it. We felt it was a good set-up for all the excitement that was to come in the second half! Glad they didn't drag the forest scenes out like they did in the books. We also felt that they picked a good place to end the first one. We did feel that this was the one movie that you would not understand if you have not read the books. There was a couple setting beside us, one had read the books and one had not. The one who hadn't read the books kept asking the other one why this and that was going on. It was very rude and distracting. So read the book!

I took my girls to see the latest installment of Harry Potter. We chose to see it in IMAX at amc. This was our first IMAX experience for a feature film. It was simply amazing. I am not a huge fan of teh series, but the cinematography and effects were abosulty stunning on the IMAX screen. I think the entire audience jumped when the snake attacked.
The movie was well done, although my girls thought the director should have stopped the story a little sooner than it did.
If you are a fan of this series, it is well worth the few extra dollarrs to see it in IMAX. We will be back to Imax for the next installment, even though it is a hundred mile drive.

The acting between Harry, Ron, and Hermione was funny, witty, and well-done. The only scene that threw off the pacing of the movie was the dancing in the tent. That scene didn't fit.
Action was amazing.

The latest Harry Potter movie was as outstanding as its predecessors in production values. The special effects were exciting, but not overblown. The cinematography, location shots and soundtrack were wonderful. The three lead actors remain vulnerable and engaging. I did miss not seeing more of my favorite villain, Snape, though.
My only concern is that it was definitely just a transition movie (like Star Wars 2). I wonder if the flashbacks, elves appearing from nowhere, talk about the horcrux, etc would make any sense to someone who has not read the books. It is not a good stand-alone movie, like "Twilight" was.

True it follows the book, but I have to say that of all the Harry Potter movies this one is the least entertaining.
I found myself expecting more and, waiting for more to happen and then just praying for this one to be over.
If you have read the books, then you know what happens. They could not, did not illustrate the first part of the book and entertain you, so wait for the final movie, and skip this part .
I took my wife, and 3 kids, and spent $77.00 when I could have waited a month and spent $1.00 at the Red Box
No, I do not recommend this movie.

I'm so glad they split #7 in two parts. This movie, to me, stayed more true to the book than any of the others have. With the last couple of movies, I was really disappointed at how much was left out, but so far, they are really staying true to the book. I really enjoyed this movie and can't wait to see what they do with Part 2!

I really enjoyed the movie, as I have all of the Harry Potter movies. My son on the other hand was disappointed that only one person dies on screen, lol. His morbid views aside, there is just enough action, keeps you interested at all times. I would definitely recommend this movie to anyone. But for my son, kill off more wizards and witches.

Meh. That's about the best I can say. Entertaining...yes. Best of all the HP's...no. #7 followed the book the least of all in the series. And the destroying the horcrux scene - OMG what an awful choice. The director sexualized an event when completely unnecessary. It was simply over the top and absurd. Ah well, there's still #8's battle to redeem itself.

I cried so many times in this film, was awed, inspired, and saw the source material in a new light. It was so much more than I dared hope for. It's not perfect. It's not pure canon. But What you love is there, and it's there in spades. I left the theater feeling sad that I would never again have that experience of seeing it for the first time. But I will -definitely- be seeing it again.

Deathly Hallows is a difficult book to adapt to the silver screen, no doubt about it. Part 1 lived up to my expectations, for the most part. There's only so much a movie can do without bogging down in too much detail.
I took my seat for the IMAX experience, armed with a package of tissues and the knowledge that I was going to cry and would do so unashamedly. I went through about half of the tissues.
The performance of each cast-member was nothing short of stellar. DH1 is such a roller-coaster of emotion and terror and they all did it justice. The twins' lighthearted approach to the war tickled me in particular, coupled with Moody's gruff one-liners during the 7 Potters scene.
Surprisingly enough, there were more chuckles than I expected there would be, which was a nice break from all the tears I shed during poignant scenes, which I won't go into here at the risk of spoiling the movie for those who haven't seen it yet.
Many expressed dubious feelings about the dance between Harry and Hermione after Ron left. While it wasn't a canon scene, it truly gave us a glimpse into the loneliness and despair the two friends felt without their best friend. For that brief moment, they were able to forget their pain and smile a bit.
The destruction of the locket horcrux was VERY well done. The taunting of Ron could have been corny or even sophomoric, but it wasn't. Excellent CGI stuff there, as it was throughout the film.
Dan Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson pulled off a magnificent performance as the now-grown Harry, Ron, and Hermione. Gone was the last shred of innocence in the HP universe and DH1 illustrated it well.
While I certainly recommend this film to mature fans of the Harry Potter series, I caution against allowing children under the age of 12 or 13 years to see it. It's mostly very dark and for the most part, horrifying. Reading this war is one thing, but seeing it is something else entirely. Thumbs up!
Yes, I recommend this movie.
