I highly recommend seeing this film, if only because it is an original horror film - not a remake - and it didn't involve ghosts or children, or ghosts who are children, or ghosts coming after children...also, there was no dancing.
These filmmakers paid close attention to the 1982 original and invented new conventions so that they didn't repeat moments from the 1982 film. It’s incredible to think that they only had the burned out shell of the Norwegian camp set as seen in the original to build this story around.
The ending during the credits used footage from the original, so it blends in perfectly; I can't wait to do a double feature on Blu-ray!
The pacing was fast compared to the original, which I think spoke not only to the filmmakers knowing today's audience, but it helped grow the story, too. If we take this as the prequel it is, then the Thing learned to be more subtle at the American camp based on what happened at the Norwegian one.
The cast was great; Mary Elizabeth Winstead especially. Don't believe the critics who are panning this movie (they hated the original one, too) or the ones who say it's an unnecessary story. Again, I disagree because it fleshes (no pun intended) out the story in a fantastic way and adds greater dimension to the world of the Thing. Nothing wrong with that!
I saw it twice because going in armed with who's who makes you look at each actor's performance again for the subtleties you missed the first time.
Totally worth the price of admission!

I saw the first movie and thought this was a good prequel. Much like John Carpenter's version which I really liked and still watch on DVD every so often. Would definitely recommend this.

I saw the original movie and thought it was enertaining. But since the graphics on movies have gotten so good at making fantasy come to life, the film was very enjoyable and suspenseful.

I have never seen the original movie but I liked this one and I would recomend it to anyone who likes horror and sci fi, well done, good acting, nice picture, good CGI and one piece of advice, if you go to watch it do not leave your seat when credits start rolling...you'll find out.

I thought the movie The Thing starts out slow and has some slow spots through it. The plot was some what predictable. It had good special effects but the ending was dissapointing. "B" movie at best,......

Movie was made with mostly unknown actors that did not distinguish themselves in this movie. Special effects were better in the original version which was made over 20 years ago. Only rates a fair at best.

The acting was sub-standard,nowhere near a Resident Evil comparison! But,I liked it very much,I've seen the 1951 original many Times. The 1982 version with Kurt Russel scared the skat out of me,Special Effects were truly wonderful in this version!!!
