Though the plot line is somewhat formulaic (e.g. Bourne), I was hooked! The story moved along quickly, and the characters were believable (no Michael Bay crap here). The "who dunnit" in the story line required your attention almost more than watching Gina Carano throughout the movie. ;) Knowing she was an MMA fighter, and seeing some of her trademark moves definitely added an element of realism to fight scenes. The ending was primer for a sequel I'd watch a sequel at the drop of a hat, or anything else for that matter!

The story of 'Haywire; is really just an excuse to see Gina Carano, MMA fighter, fight . The story of a freelance agent set up for a killing and painted as a rogue agent is fine. Looked like director Soderbergh called in a few favors and cast the movie with big names but the star is Gina. The camera loves her and, no offense to Zoe Saldana or Angelina Jolie, you could easily buy her beating up various men. The ending was kind of open and I'd welcome a sequel!

Gina Carano is a beautiful woman and her fighting scenes were great, but the money not so much. I was bored and wished I had used my money to see a different money. I had hoped with the movie having good actors in it - Michael Douglas, Antonio Banderas it would be great but it was far from even good. I would wait until it came out on Netflix. Sorry.

My wife & I had just finished watching 'Red Tail' great movie GO SEE IT! Follwing that movie we went to see Haywire. 15 minutes into the movie my wife and I were asleep. This movie was hard to follow and the action scenes were sub par at best. The only recommendation I would give to this movie is not to go see it.

Maybe not quite the 5.0 stars I gave it (to make up for the 1 star nonsense) but awesome all the same and not far off it, 4+.
A stylish, intriguing action/spy thriller.
For once, the female actually looks like she could be taking on and defeating the guys she is up against, 100% for real (which is probably not surprising considering that in real life she surely could take down any of the guys in the film I'd bet). The camera certainly likes her every bit as much as any typical actress too. And she played the part well, not sure what people expected to see this sort of character act like.
A nice mix of serious action with a bit of humor (some of the scenes with the kid from the diner).
Nicely told with timeline flashing back and forth until past finally meets present for the last half of the movie. Nice in the mix style of directing, not quite the usual fair.
Not that I didn't like M.I. - G.P., but this one certainly didn't have any of the stuff where a quick pasted on fake mustache lets you walk straight into the Kremlin hah.
I don't know what sort of audiences some of the people writing the reviews here have, but nobody was laughing at the movie (at inappropriate times that is, a few scenes did have a bit of humor mixed in and got reaction) or falling asleep (?!) at the theater I went to, very safe to say. Nobody walked out early. A lot of people were even sitting through credits talking about it. Listening to audience reaction during the film it sure seemed to go over well at my theater.
As for comments like "I think I lost 2 or more IQ points after leaving this movie. The movie never tells what the real gist of the movie is and then it ends just as bad as it begins." it seems to me that maybe 2 or more IQ points were already missing before entering the theater if you couldn't get the gist of it even by the end. As for the film ending as badly as it began, come on, the final flash scene, right as it snaps to credits, was cool!
Here's hoping for a Haywire 2.

First of all, Gina Carano was terrific. I had no idea who she is but read this morning in Parade she is trained in mixed marshal arts. The plot was difficult to follow, which was made more difficult by backflashes and scene switches. However, like any good tale, the pieces started coming together at the end. I would like to see it again to test some of my theories about the plot. I think there's more to this movie then I caught the first time.

I can't remember the last time I wanted to leave a movie before it ended. This was horrible. With a cast like this I thought for sure it would be a hit, but it turned out to be a total miss! Gina Carano may be a great fighter, and we certainly got proof of that in ALL her fight scenes, but her acting skills need some work. Too many scenes just following her around while she chased someone or was chased herself. Is it really necessary to show a close up of her face for 10 seconds while she's running? This movie was more about spotlighting Gina's ckills as a fighter than it was about anything else, like a plot! Some scene's were so ridiculous we laughed out loud, as did much of the movie goers in our theater. The story line was weak, and the action/fight scenes got boring after the first 12. She can kiss ass - we GOT it! Don't waste your money on this we. We wish we hadn't.

Haywire was an okay movie. What I enjoyed about it was the fighting and that those scenes looked unscripted and real. I think Mallory Kane did great in this movie and I look forward to seeing her in other movies. However the storyline was confusing. I agree with another writer , I could have waited for the DVD on this one.

The best thing about "Haywire" was Steven Soderbergh's direction. The film reminded me of his earlier work, "Traffic." But where "Traffic" cut from one aspect of the illegal drug and law enforcement interactions to another, "Haywire" cuts to different moments in time in one agent's battle with a traitorous superior.
Soderbergh carefully crafts the story so that the audience never understands what is going on until the very last few minutes of the film. From the beginning it is obvious that someone wants the agent eliminated, but the question that drives the plot is, why?
"Haywire" is a terrific action film with a great cast and very little studio support of which I am aware. Perhaps the executives believed that with A-List names like Steven Soderbergh and Michael Douglas they could save money on diligent marketing. With the right treatment this gem of an action movie, I believe, could have made the studio a lot more money than it seems it will now make.

My wife & I had just finished watching 'Red Tail' great movie GO SEE IT! We bought the last showing on Saturday and was very excited to see the movie, 15 minutes into the movie we looked at each other like "Who put this CRAP together". All actors had no emotion tied to their character, the cinematic action was that of a low budget film with a $100.00 camera. Even when the movie started to piece itself together I was by then uninterested & ready to go. I would never recommend this film to no one and I would never see anything by this director & producer again. Haywire....yeah right more like LAMEWIRE!!

Gina Carano is stunning as an action hero and as an actress. It's intriguing to see an action female who can actually do the things she is portraying. Mostly it's tiny girls beating up Michael Clark Duncan esque men. I'm looking forward to seeing her in more dramatic rolls. If you look at the male cast, then you'd think this movie would be kick-ass good. Well, I am sorry to say it wasn't. It just does seem that Steven Soderbergh has the dexterity to direct real action. His strength has always been ensemble pieces woven together in a neatly synchronized order and he tried this formula again. Sadly, his practical approach to filmaking sapped all the excitement that this tale should have had and left it feeling flat.

I thought that this movie was going to be great with Ewan McGregor , Michael Douglas and Antonio Banderas as lead actors and directed by Steven Soderbergh.. This was truly a disappointment. I still don't understand the story line.. Soderbuergh must have been asleep while directing this movie .. BORING. Not worth the money do not bother.

We were extremely disappointed in the poor acting, it was ridiculous. The movie was hard to keep up with for a while you were jumping between past and present. Total waste of my money.

It's difficult to tell you what this movie is about because I didn't understand half of it. The story is fragmented between the past and present more than it should be; the characters are intentionally vague about this past and actions because they are mercenaries. Lastly, I found it impossible to care about any of the characters in this movie. Perhaps, all of those elements made it so entertaining to watch and so easy to dislike while watching it. The end result, however, was positive. I had a blast watching Gina Carano kick butt. This movie is also jam-packed with great stars who play their role to a tee. All I can say is, see it but just don't try to understand it. It was fun to watch and try to keep up with. Frankly, I don't even think the director cared about telling you story.

This movie was poor. Only redeeming value is the action scenes. Gina Carano delivers realistic and well-done fight exchanges. She is not an actress, however, and it's probably good there is as little dialog as there is. I just don't get this. Don't know why Soderbergh would make this kind of film. There are hints of a certain stylized feel that might be reaching for an Oceans 11 et al vibe, but it never gets there. I thought Contagion was a real step-down for Soderbergh but this was a collapse. I loved Traffic and some of his earlier work. Such a talent, but wasted at the moment.

Steven Soderbergh has made a name for himself in Hollywood not only for his big budget blockbusters like the Ocean’s 11 movies and Traffic, but he also likes to work on small projects such as Full Frontal, Sex Lies and Video Tape, The Girlfriend Experience, and now Haywire.
It seems pertinent to mention Soderbergh’s previous work, because like nearly all his other films, Haywire has his signature style attached from the beginning. But can he translate this style into a hardcore action film? Read on to find out.
Haywire stars first-time actress and MMA fighter Gina Carano as an operative for hire who gets burned by her handler and vows revenge while clearing her name. If this plot sounds familiar, it is. Fortunately, this film has more than enough action to make up for what it lacks in plot.
And boy does it have some action. Gina Carano kicks so much ass in this film, I felt bad for the actors and stunt doubles that had to go up against her. The fight scenes are amazing and brutal, and are often presented as very short and quick bursts of violence resulting in someone getting their face pounded by the film’s heroine. The other very interesting thing about the fight scenes is that there is no music during them. Now, this may not seem like a big deal, but when you see the first fight in the film, you realize how real and visceral it becomes when the only thing you hear is the brutality you’re witnessing on screen.
As with all Soderbergh movies, we’re given an incredible cast with this movie. Michael Douglas, Ewen McGregor, Michael Fassbender, Antonio Bandaras, Bill Paxton, Channing Tatum, and Michael Angarano round out the cast and all give decidedly good performances. Channing Tatum seems like a pretty decent actor when compared to Gina Carano, but she does a passable job for her first acting gig.
This film is unfortunately not without flaws however. The plot is weak and at times it felt like we were just seeing filler until the next action set piece began. I feel that with this much talent behind, and in front of, the camera we could have seen a more engaging story. The film’s climax also felt a bit strange. The final showdown seemed like it was supposed to be more epic, but something happened in the interim. The sad thing is that the film started off so strong but hiccuped at the end.
Haywire is a good movie that had the potential to be a great movie. That being said, it’s still a good movie and is definitely worth checking out. With some of the best fight scenes I’ve ever seen in a movie, and a very cool car chase scene, Haywire is an absolute must-see for anyone wanting to see some top-notch action.

This movie was a borefest. It's really slow to get somewhat interesting. It's like a bond movie without a likeable cool lead character. Unless you are easily entertained you will leave the theater thinking "That's it?" Plot was not very understandable just a bunch of men double-crossing the female lead so she can get revenge. Some of the fight scenes were good but it's really not enough to carry the film. Please do yourself a favor and rent this movie. It's not as good as the critics say it is.
