The latest installment of the X-Men franchise is, to put it mildly, First Class! The film actually starts where the very first movie began, on the streets of Warsaw in World War II, where we meet the boy who will become Magneto. We also meet the sinister and smiling Dr. Shaw, brilliantly played by Kevin Bacon, who is quite fun in this role. The movie shows us just how all the central X-characters meet for the first time, and the story of the Cuban Missle Crisis is the perfect way to show how it is the characters eventually choose "good" versus "evil" in their effort to survive in a human world, which is hell-bent on destroying them. It's two hours that passes in about 30 minutes, and I would highly recommend it as a first X-Men movie to anyone unfamiliar with the entire phenomenon!

I was very surprised with this one. It ended up being the best out if the entire franchise, and honestly one of the best comic book adaptions ever made. If you're into comic books, you won't be disappointed. Definitely don't miss out on this one.

What can I say, I loved it. Matthew Vaughn did an excellent job developing the characters and giving us all the back story on how the X-Men clan got their start. While most of the focus was on Magneto, the beginnnings for the rest were clearly laid out in a intelligible and entertaining way. I also thought the acting was superb as welll as the special effects.

This movie went a long way towards restoring my faith in the X-Men franchise, after the embarrassment that was the third film. The action is good, the dialogue is decent and the acting is better than expected. While there are a couple wooden performances, the primary cast is fantastic.
Plenty of Easter eggs and throws to the characters they will become, this was an excellent reboot. I can only hope the sequel holds as true.
Definitely recommended!

Spousal unit and I were suprised at how good this movie turned out to be! We were expecting a child-like "I Am Number Four" type of flick. This one is close to the best ... like "1.5" and Wolverine!! We will buy and put one the shelf to complete the series ! MUST see for all X fans.

I really enjoyed this movie! I am 46yrs old and a comic book fan (I'm a girl!) and I thought the story was very well written and the acting great (especially McAvoy and Fassbender as Charles and Eric).
I am curious why they didn't stick close to the original X-men Comic characters as the first X-Men were Cyclops, Beast, Angel (Warren Worthington) and Jean Grey -- however, I still thought it was well done and well-paced.
I didn't enjoy January Jones at all. Even in Mad Men, she is a bit 'stiff'. All in all, I would recommend this movie!

Great action/adventure movie. Right up there with all of the previous Xmen movies. I was very intrigued with the way the producers did the storyline. Cudos to the producers, writers and 20th Century Fox for a movie well worth the wait.

The entire effort, in both creation and marketing, has been to portray this as a “smart” superhero film; from the intellectual (even awarded) cast, to the almost indie director Matthew Vaughan, to the New York instead of LA premier. I found the commitment and dedication to the fantasy very gratifying. There were no slips in logic, no tongue-in-cheek comedy, no Stan Lee cameo. Even the references to the wider X-Men universe were limited and, with a very necessary and obligatory exception, consisted exclusively of allusions. In spite of this, it still explains everything that was alluded to but never quite covered in the earlier movies.
Since the film is set in the 1960s, it is set in a time when the human populace was not aware of the existence of mutants, while at the same time being under the threat of atomic war. The film plays out closer to Munich (2005) than any other superhero film, even though it bears all the hallmarks of having an ensemble cast, namely recruitment, discovery, betrayal, inspiration, and final sprint.
The acting is superb. The main characters are extremely convincing, and extremely detailed. So much so, that it makes the lack of detail in supporting characters (Angel, Riptide) stand out starkly at times, which is the only fault I could find. Michael Fassbender ultimately steals the show: he is charming and troubled, intelligent and doubtful, powerful and weak at the same time. The relationship between Charles and Erik, which is undoubtedly the center of the whole movie, is preserved and portrayed with unflinching precision and sensitivity, and holds the viewer with the warmth of their hearts, not just the speed with which it beats.

Really enjoyed this movie, it was not perfect but pretty darn close. The dialog really needed some improvent it didn't tease me or thrill but the special effects really made it work. The casting was brilliant and the cameos were pretty cool. A good summer flick.

Amazing! I loved this movie, in my opinion it is by far the best movie yet in the line-up of X-Men movies. I think having fewer "big name" actors really made this movie more enjoyable and the cast melded together like you'd want them to if you're a comic fan looking for a good translation from comic to big screen. If you read X-Men or you're even remotely a fan of the other films you have to see this movie, it went far beyond my expectations. It seemed more like an action movie than a comic book based movie and yet it still did a phenomenal job of bringing the X-Men story into real life and then relating it to an actual event in world history! Don't miss this it was fantastic! Great Wolverine cameo as well, short but hilarious!

I really enjoyed the movie and my expectations were met. I had high hopes for the movie because it was supported by some great actors. I saw Thor as well, but I enjoyed this movie more. Pacing was good, never seemed to lag. I really like the music they chose for Magneto; it really set the mood. It is not necessarily a kids movie. I loved that they went with a character-driven piece. I have and will see it more times because James and Michael did such an amazing job. Way to take it to a new level!
My only issue is that a lot of the directing seemed un-inspired and I would have liked a little more in the music, the shots, the color, etc. If you're going all out to make a real film out of a comic-book, go all the way, Vaughn.
Overall, way to go! I want good things for McAvoy and Fassbender.

While many people were expecting Brian Singer to impose his will; Mathew Vaughn has taken the franchise in a good direction. The movie set during the Cuban MIssle crisis adds a sense of urgency and need for extraordinary people to rise to meet the need for their abilities. The movie is well acted with McAvoy and Fassbender chewing up the scenery with their composed and straightforward diction and bromance that manages to form in the months the movies cover. The two actors are complimented by Kevin Bacon's Bondesque Sebastian Shaw who thoroughly enjoys being a bad guy. Go into the movie with few expectations and be surprised at how much you get out of it. It is a welcome addition to the series and it also acts to correct some mistakes in X-3 and Wolverine Origins. Go see this movie!!

I love the X-men series. Loved the film and seeing more of the back store between Professor X and Magneto. One of my favorites parts was the cameo appearance by Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. I would defiantly recommend this movie to anyone especially if they are an X-men fan, it is fundamental to original character to explain who they are in later life.

I have to say overall I enjoyed the movie. It was a little slow building the story line but then it picked up.Kevin Bacon as always pulls off a good evil dude. The special effects were good and action level high. Still I left thinking what next? This must be the new mo in Hollywood. Make a series of movies and end it with how it all started. Will we next see How Jack Sparrow became a pirate?
But still a good bang for your buck.

The movie is entertaining but a little all over the place. Somewhat faithful to the comic book, but with a bit/lot of creative freedom. Not the best of the saga but better than Wolverine's. I kind of enjoyed the 70's look.
