Matthew Vaughn's foresight to pass on the last X-Men movie in favor of artistic control could not have been a better decision. The freedom Vaughn had in First Class was evident throughout, and resulted in the best movie of the franchise.

For anyone that is an X-men fan and expecting to see a movie based in comic-book lore then don't see this movie. However, if you just enjoy a good X-men movie then you should definitely watch this one. It's good, Hollywood action fun. There are some inconsistencies from the other X-men movies which is a bit bothersome but it does not distract from the entertainment. It's really worth it just to see the relationship between Charles and Erik and to see a kick-ass villian in Kevin Bacon.

Hubs & I are huge X-Men fans and while we enjoyed the movie it didn't have the BAM of others in the series. In retrospect, many prequels are similar IMHO. Should you see it? Most definitely see it...just don't think you'll get blown away by it. :o)

But in this case I'm making an exception. They did a great job tying in elements from the other movies in ways that fit, instead of just forcing a round peg into a square hole for the sake of cramming stuff in.
The only real issue I had was some of the exaggerated gesturing... Does Xavier really need to put finger to temple so we all know he's using his power? Does Magneto really need to strike a Power Ranger pose when he's moving something big? Also, not sure why Angel needed to be a female stripper with dragonfly wings...
Overall, though, grrrrrrrreat flick, with outstanding use of cameos.

This movie had me captured from the 1st scene. Excellent character representations and action. When a movie of this calaber seeks to entertain us, and remains true to the story lines and relationships previously established, it scores an absolute "Knockout"! Incredible movie. It doesn't follow the comic book chronology or plot, but the story here is a great update. Action-packed, suspenseful and exciting, it also manages to be touching, resonant and emotionally engaging. Fans of X-Men should see this movie multiple times to show Fox that THIS is how to make future installments. For those who don't know the X-Men at all, this is easily the best movie to jump in and experience the excitement for the first time. I felt that it was a really good movie overall! It followed the basic storyline, though I really wish that it would have incorporated the original team (Cyclops, Jean Grey/Marvel Girl, Iceman, etc.)

Great develop of characters. Only wish would be for more xmen team members. Casting was awesome and the actors did a great job.

This movie was simply ok. kinda plain ok not even that exciting. I felt its was drawn out and then the last ten minutes...BAM heres the story. I wanted a refund just like when i saw Boret!
