This was the prequel to the X-Men trilogy. It was overly long and complicated. While the back story of Magneto & Professor X was somewhat interesting, it wasn't fun. Wolverine's origins was much better. Not as good as the prior films.

X-Men First Class was a fun film, and for someone who never read the comics this filled in the history. Casting, effects, and story were great. My husband and I enjoyed it and didn't mind paying walk-in prices to see it on the big screen. I'd recommend it.

While we enjoyed the understanding how the X-Men came together at the start - and apart - none of us (family of 5) really enjoyed the movie as it was too long and lacked the quality to pull it all together... We are eagerly awaiting The Green Lantern's opening this week.

OK. We know what to expect. We all go to movies like this for the escapist entertainment. Stuff gets blown up, cute references to prior movies, standard prequel set-ups. What we shouldn't be doing is looking at our watches with an hour to go.
The acting was good enough. The special effects were good enough. The story was good enough. But the pacing was terrible. The training scenes went on forever and ever. someone call an editor.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Went with 2 kids (12 and 9), husband and self. Only 12 year old did not like it but did not like the whole series. Personally, I love learning how Prof X and Magneto came together and apart, the inner struggles of good and evil, seeing how simple human weaknesses play such a crucial role in the roads we choose, etc., etc., etc.
In a few words, a great summer escape and history for are XMen fans. Don't read into things too deeply, like dialogue holes, etc. Just make this part of summer fun!

The movie was entertaining enough, though a bit stretched out. Bacon's character was evil without much explanation why. Acting was good, but the script had holes. Movie was dumbed down and simplified in some parts and in some other parts was complex and heavy - very inconsistent.

A more than worthy addition to the X-Men mythos. Well crafted main characters are exceptionally brought to life my McAvoy (Professor X) and Fassbender (Magneto) giving the film emotional depth beyond many super hero flicks.
Beautiful locations and special effects contribute.
Secondary characters, acting and script fall a bit flat, but are truly there to serve X and Mag mostly here.

I didn't come into this movie with really high expectations, but having seen the first three X-Men movies and Wolverine, I was thinking, "A prequel to the threequel." What happened? This movie far x-ceeded my x-pectations (sorry for the "x" puns)! Having some relative unknowns in these roles makes the movie work really well. Kevin Bacon is really the only "big" star of this one, and there's an appearance by someone else (sorry, won't reveal this info, you'll have fo find out yourself!). I thought the story was plausible and believable, and despite the CGI effects, the story was the star of the movie, especially how Charles and Erik start out so well as friends but end up enemies at the end. Trust me, go see this, but be careful if you bring kids, as there is a little foul language.

I thought this movie was magnificent! It was awesome all over the map! Very good character development, great acting, and good action. A very good job was done in winding the story around itself - and keeping you on the edge of your seat! Once again, the aim of extracting the human dilemma within the mutant/superhero was extremely well done. I can't wait to see the next one !!!

The story was good and it was good to see how the characters came to be who and what they were later in life. But, I felt it lacked depth in the development of the characters' relationships. For instance, when Mystique joined Magneto it felt contrived & not "inevitable" even though we know she's aligned with him. Overall it was good, just lacking in depth. Worth seeing.

Xmen + inglorious basterds + star trek-esque origin story = um, ok, pretty awesome. Patrick Stewart and Ian Mckellen are untouchable, but aside from a few cheesy mutant powers, the new vehicle for professor x and magneto seems to work very well.

The story line is really the star here, bringing us up to speed on how things started for our favorite characters. On the other hand, acting was superb, and I agree it did give the opportunity to sympathize with Magneto's position. The sound track was great and the cinematography well done, even with a lot of CGI. Overall, I really liked it despite it being long, which just gave a chance to develop the characters more fully (such as Xavier's leadership qualities). Go see it, you will not be disappointed.

The movie proceeds at a glacial pace with a tired Hollywood formula of good versus evil. The ending battle scene has been done so many times before in other movies. With the flying elements, this battle felt like Harry Potter meets the Navy. Kevin Bacon did not have enough gravitas for his role.

I loved this latest masterpiece from the Marvel Universe! The character development was perfect as was blue-eyed James McAvoy's (and all of the others) performances! They kept the story very, very close to the original storylines and Kevin Bacon's performance was just wonderful! I can't wait to see many more class sessions from the X-Men School of Professor X!

LOVED this film. As much as I loved the first X-Men movie, this is by far my favorite. The history of the characters and their motivations have always been what makes this story stand out. The human curse of prejudice and bigotry makes for a compelling and all-too-believable mythology. While I was totally on the side of Xavier and his team in the previous movies, Michael Fassbender gave us a mighty reason to pull for Magneto. His performance was powerful, and heartbreaking. I will admit to rooting for him and his desire for vengeance. James McAvoy was as usual amazing, and his Professor Xavier was more nuanced than I expected, as he was able to portray a good/heroic man as flawed in almost imperceptible ways - and unable to see it. This story has the feel of an epic Greek tragedy. I could watch the two of them act out the phone book. Jennifer Lawrence's performance was also very good, as we see Raven become Mystique. Her story arc is about growth and change, and what we must give up to be ourselves. Thank you Stan Lee et al for creating characters that seem more real and relatable than the most serious dramas.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
