Lots of action and adventure. You learn a lot about the origins of the x-men and I think it's a good way to possibly transition into xmen 3 the only thing is it just sucks that its not longer you really want to learn about every single person that is brought into the fold but I guess you will just have to read the series to find that out lol

A part of me really enjoyed watching this movie. It was "cool" and big. Over the top without being campy. But the "purist" in me was really disappointed with how much the story was changed. I'm not sute if it is the Fox studio producers or writers, but the movies made by Marvel studios seem to almost be on point, but Fox strays off. Like I said, good movie and very cool. Just not for the die hard fan.

I saw a truly great comic book hero movie this weekend...and it wasn't GREEN LANTERN.
X-MEN: FIRST CLASS is easily the best Marvel movie since IRON MAN, and crackles with life, vibrance, and an almost-operatic scope and scale. Credit here to a fantastic cast headed by the amazing James McAvoy as master telepath Charles Xavier and an equally brilliant Michael Fassbender as master of magnetism Erik Lenscher. The two men form the movie's backbone, and their interaction drives the great script to pulse-pounding perfection, even when they're doing something as silly as picking up a mutant in a strip club...or something as intense as combining their powers to stop WW3,
Set against the backdrop of the Cuban Missile Crisis, the stakes for humanity have never been higher, and the question of man's ultimate destiny has never been more pointed. Charles' eternal optimism about the future of mankind and Erik's raging disdain for humans who view mutants as mere pawns or lab rats are always running just beneath the surface...and the climactic battle as the Soviet ships reach the US blockade line brings out both the best and worst in both men. Kevin Bacon nicely hams it up playing Sebastian Shaw, a nearly-immortal mutant who can absorb power and energy and turn it back into any weapon he desires.Shaw has ties to Erik and a desire to take control of Charles' first class of young mutants, and he brings the two near-brothers into their ultimate conflict that drives the rest of the X-Men series.
The movie runs 2:11, but feels easily an hour shorter; there's not a slow moment in the movie, and the cool vibe of the early 60s echoes through the direction, the editing, and especially the acting. There are also a couple of great X-Men historical moments--Hank McCoy trying to contain his inner beast being the best of them--and a couple of cute cameos (Charles and Erik run into a mutant in a Canadian bar that will be VERY recognizable to X-fans).There are even in-jokes about the characters' later incarnation in the original X-Men movies (the best one: When Charles tries out Cerebro for the first time and Hank offers to shave his head for better contact with the helmet's electrodes, Charles bluntly responds, "Don't touch my hair"). No end-tag was the only thing disappointing me about the movie, but even that felt fine after realizing there wasn't any need for a tag.

This is a watchable film with some excellent acting. Rebooting the X-men to a period piece in the 60's is a good idea. The X-men have always had civil rights undertones. Too bad they didn't go all the way and use the original team. X-men team for this film is very weak. The other problem is they rushed the ending. The last fifteen minutes of this film should have been saved for the entire plot of a sequel.

i thoroughly enjoyed this movie. It was great entertainment, great action, i was given character development plus how the characters became acquainted with each other and how their powers evolved.The main plot of this movie evolves around Xavier and Magneto plus subplots of Sebastian Shaw, Mystique, Beast and a couple others. Great humor and wit through out too.
i now will buy all the X-men DVD's.

I have seen 3 X-Men movies and I think this one was the best. Why don't they keep movies in their order of occurence? Maybe they would make better sense! Duh! Anyway, it had a good story that was pretty easy to follow. A lot of action and suspense. Worth seeing for an afternoon or evening of entertainment.

This was the second of 2 comic book movies that I saw this day. It was very well done and, with the exception of some minor gaffs in the storyline, I enjoyed it very much. I am going to recommend it to everyone and will definitely get the DVD when it comes out.

The movie should be call X-men origins: Xavier and Magneto. They were the main point of the story with ok subplots from others like Sebastian Shaw, Mistique, Beast and a couple others. It had a lot of action and great story but I felt a few holes were covered from the other movies but a couple mre were made. But overall the best movie of the summer for me. Tie with Fast Five!!!!!

If you are a Marvel Comics fan, you will enjoy this movie more than the average movie viewer. Not that much action as other Marvel movies you may have already seen. Ever since I started watching the 1990's X-Men cartoon and reading the comics, Magneto was one of my favorite characters in all of Marvel. I was very disappointed when the Magneto movie got scrapped a few years ago, but this movie might as well been called "X-Men Origins: Magneto." So if you are at all a fan of Magneto, see this movie immediately.
Obviously they didn't stick to every little detail of the comic book world, but the things they changed I really had no problem with. I don't mind if they let Charles keep his hair into his thirties, or if they have a stray bullet paralyze him instead of a lame one-issue villain from the 1960's known as "Lucifer" doing the job. Sebastian Shaw can have Magneto's helmet until Magneto steals it from him instead of Charles just making it for him. Obviously the team is completely different, but the point is, this is a movie, and a great movie at that.
Magneto and Professor X's characters were acted amazingly, and I thought this movie really captured their complicated friendship and explained why they were "enemies" in later movies. Magneto completely stole the show for me, I loved seeing him take vengeance on the Nazis, it was done so perfectly, and it was so nice seeing him portrayed as the badass he was in the comics instead of an old man "mutant prophet" type as he was in the X-Men trilogy. Beast was awesome, especially when he turns blue and furry, looked great. I really didn't have any gripes about this movie that were big enough for me to back off of my initial 5/5 rating I gave it instantly after seeing it, and its been a week now.
This movie makes me really hope they do a sequel (or another prequel, depending on how you look at it) and is by far my favorite of the 4 "X-Men movies" including Wolverine.

Great movie. A 'flaw' people might have are the true X-Men comic buffs. Don't want to ruin anything but the story revolving around Mystique does not follow the original comic.

The movie easily does justice to the long running time and the director has managed to keep the audience on the edge of their seats almost throughout the movie. This prequel has more emphasis on the plot when compared to the trilogy and that is where the strength of the movie lies. The action sequences are nice too - especially the one where Erik pulls the submarine out of the ocean. Some scenes are really good - for example, there is a scene between Erik and Charles where Charles restores some of Erik's memories which he didn't know existed - really strong and touching scene. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the movie and would recommend giving it a view.

I watched this movie hoping it was better than the original trilogy. Instead it was about the same as the originals. Good special effects and action scenes. But, very little character or story development, poor acting (with the exception of Fassbender who was excellent), and a total disregard for X-men canon.

I'm a bit biased (at least I'm upfront about it) being a Marvel comics fan but I absolutely thought this was one of the best movies so far this summer. Hands down. I say that after seeing Thor, which I also thought was great but X-Men: First Class blows it away. I can only hope that Captain America is just as good. Not based on the comic books, but on the previous films, this is the story of the origins of the X-Men, and more importantly the friendship of Erik and Charles. Its well structured and well paced. There's more than enough here to satisfy anyone who has followed the sage from the start. Plus, there is the interweave of the way they bring in actual historic footage from the news that makes this all the more intriguing.
Kevin Bacon plays the villain you love to hate. And look for the cameo with Hugh Jackman. Classic!
Its different than all the previous films in this series, yet its familiar and entertaining. This is not at all like the previous Wolverine Origin film in style or substance, but it stands on its own as a strong foundation of the saga. I still prefer the adult versions of the characters, but these guys are not bad at all.

so i am torn on this film i love xmen i enjoy the recent movies made but i am a true fan of the comics and cartoon with that being said i have two opinions if you dont know the story or follow the comics you will enjoy this film my friends gave it 5 stars
if you do know the story then you will hate this film like me this is probably the biggest hollywood screw up ever first off the name of the film is wrong not only were some of the characters not part of the original x men but they weren't x men at all in fact they were x factor and generation x need i say more the rest of the film is just god awful

The movie answers some unresolved questions from the first x-men movie. Excellent choice to start the movie with magneto as a kid and progress through his life to understand why he feels the way he feels. The overall movie is a great success. There are some discrepencies, the fact that alex summers (havoc) is scott summers (cyclops) brother but cyclops is portrayed as a kid within cerebro. My only negative comment is the use profanity and the use of sex in the movie it is unecessary. the movoe would have been just as effective without it.
