I took my kids age 6,11, and 14 to this movie. We all enjoyed it. Its easy to be disappointed in a movie that was made from a book, but we were not disappointed at all. Loved it!

I thought the 3D effect was excellent, it doesn't always work well but it did here. The story was sweet but quite slow, 15-20 minutes longer than it needed to be perhaps. I wouldn't take children under 7 years old to see it, they would get very bored and fidgity. Sasha Cohen was a bright spark.

I read and enjoyed the book, and although the movie doesn't follow the book exactly, it is faithful to the plot. It also adds interesting subplots, stories within the main story, that complement the central plot and the theme. The acting was superb; Ben Kingsley in particular showed us why he is such a great actor. The 3D effects did not dominate the overall visual magic. The movie authentically recreates Paris between the World Wars. I loved it.

This film is like a beautifully wrapped gift that reveals layer after layer of depth as one slowly wraps it. Funny, moving, heartbreaking, stunning.......way too many applicable adjectives. This is a film for the whole family. The 3d enhances and is, finally, not a gimmick. It's also a plea for the preservation and restoration of art. The highest praise I could give comes from.my youngest daughter who said she could "watch it 6 more times in a row."

Overall this was a good movie that was creative and had a good story. It is a little dry in some parts, but worth it and is much more interesting and entertaining than most of the souless fluff and remakes that corporations have been putting out there since they took over the movies.

This Martin Scorsese film had so much potential but ended up just being a pitch for film preservation. I kept waiting for the movie to take off but all we got was "special 3D effects" (snow blowing), repetitious action scenes, and full-blown melodrama. Please! Extraordinary acting but a boring, weak script. And the 3D was totally unnecessary. Save your $15 and rent something better.

Visually, this is a beautiful film, with lots of eye candy. Scorsese does a nice job with the 3D effects. But the movie itself was lacking- in plot, pace, and predictability. There is nothing new here.

We chose Hugo in 3D for our after-Thanksgiving movie and were delighted with what a great show it was. The movie slowly and beautifully unfolds to tell a sweet story. While my three kids over age 8 and my husband and I loved it, my 5yo didn't like it. I think it would be most appreciated by slightly older viewers.

My wife and I don't usually go to see 3D movies, because most of them are just gimmicky.
The first few minutes of "Hugo" fully and totally justify a 3D ticket price!!!
Add to that an incredible story that touched me deeply and on so many different levels... romance for a time gone by, intrigue, FANTASTIC acting and brilliant casting and, of course, Martin Scorsese.
HIs love of film is deeply reflected and informs every frame (or pixel) of this movie. For those of you unaware of the early days of cinema, this will be an incredible introduction for you... especially if you keep in mind that what you're learning about was cutting edge technology in the early 1900's.
The story is mesmerizing, the characters interesting and enchanting and the visual aspect is phenomenal.
I simply cannot recommend this movie enough! There are very view movies that I walk out of a theater thinking "I need to buy this when it comes out."
"Hugo" will be going right next to my Blu-Ray copy of John Ford's "The Searchers."

Well done indeed. The surrealism added greatly to the mood of the film. The blending of the familiar with the unfamiliar also was intreging. I would definatly recommend it. 3D effects were very well done, but the movie stands extremely well on its own as a fine film.

HUGO 3D is an homage to all movies, both technically and story-wise, and to all audiences young and old. Scorsese is probably at his career best, even though HUGO is unlike anything he has done before. The importance of history - in general as well as film and art history - is made visceral. HUGO is Spielbergian but with more restraint, so it never stoops to sentimentality. The casting and acting are at the same extraordinary level as the direction and special effects - if there is any film in which 3D increases the dramatic impact and sense of wonder, HUGO is it. [The world of AVATAR has nothing on the all-encompassing world of the post-WW I Parisian train station!] Like Brian Selznick's visionary, sprawling "graphic children's novel" [what an inadequate term for THE INVENTION OF HUGO CABRET] on which the film is based, the story has amazing breadth and depth, touching lightly on the despair everyone must face in life for any number of unpredictable reasons, while grounding that story in wondrous big and little details of humanity at its worst and best. I was mesmerized from beginning to end. I won't just recommend the film to others, I will probably kidnap people and take them to the theater.

By far the best family movie we have seen this year! Scorsese productions are always worth a look, but this one was obviously a gift from his heart to movie goers'. Ben Kingsley confimed why he is a past Oscar winner, Sasha Baron Cohen provided his well known comic relief while still providing a very credible performance. Both chidren actors, Asa and Chloe are very entertaining as well as provided depth to their characters. Take a look at the closing credits and you will receive confirmation this was a great story before the first scene was ever shot! If you only see a few films a year this is one you won't want to miss!

This movie is by far the best movie I have ever seen in my life. The actors, sets, camera angles, story, all the above was fabulous. It felt alittle long but well worth it. 3D experience was incredible!
