I took my nieces and mom to see this movie, and we all loved it. It is a love letter to the film industry and it's continued preservation. The 3-D version is stunning, and I don't usually fall for the hype of watching a movie in 3-D. My niece turned to me at the end and said, "They actually used 3-D in this movie," and what she meant was the fact that you feel like you're a part of this film; completely immersed in the landscape!

A very nicely made movie with an interesting story and excellent performances by the fine cast. Very young children will not likely be entertained because there is actually more story than action. Sacha Baron Cohen's appearance was an interesting surprise and his performance was excellent.

HUGO is one of the most beautifully filmed motion pictures I have ever seen, and its beauty is further enhanced by its 3D. If you are a fan of film-making as an art form and the history of cinema, including some of its forgotten heroes like George Melies, you will love this film. Note that this is not a kiddie film as many assume. Although its protagonists are children, its themes may be over the heads of the children in the audience, and they may find the film too slowly paced.

My son and I went to Hugo with only a vague sense of what it was about, and were thoroughly enchanted by what it turned out to be. We found it very engaging, thoughtful and entertaining, while being happily immersed in the richly textured world created by the film.
I thought my son would enjoy it, but I came away even more delighted than he was. What a welcome treat!

HUGO was not well-attended when I saw it, and admittedly has a plot that will appeal primarily to those who enjoyed the book or true lovers of cinema and cinema history, which I am, so I ADORED this film! The primary reason to see it, though, is for the 3-D, which is stunning in the hands of a true artist like filmmaker Martin Scorsese. The child actors are superb, as is Ben KIngsley as the grumpy toy merchant in the Montparnasse Station!

I guess you need to know a bit about the movie going into it. All I knew about it was the trailor and that alone wasn't clear to what this movie was about. I love fantasy/scifi/imagination movies but this one sucked!!! From the beginning there was too much uneccessary talking and a waste of time with the goofy Sasha Baron (whatever his name is). 75% of the movie was so uninteresting and seemed like the director tried to stretch the story out to meet the 2hrs. the last 25% of the movie finally had some action or shall I say "interesting" parts in it. Also, why do fantasy type fairy tale movies always have to be in British accents all the time? Americans don't have imagination? As twisted and confusing as the movie is, a British accent doesn't help when I'm trying to understand the movie. This movie was a sleeper for me. I rather was Fried Green Tomatoes.

This was an excellent movie - best we've seen this year. The movie had an engrossing storyline/plot and spell bounding visuals. It was amazing. The two hours felt like 15 minutes. The last time we saw a movie this good was Inception. This is a new classic and worth seeing in a theatre.

Based on the trailers, thought it would be "scarymation". However, was very surprised. Both my friend and I enjoyed the film. Thought everything about it was truly FANTASTIC. Best movie I've seen this year, and my kids loved it too. The cinematography was simply stunning and it worked well both as a film for adults and as a children's movie. Also the best use of 3D I've ever seen. My kids are 10 and 12--it might be a little too grown-up for very young children, but it was perfect for mine.

I usually don't enjoy the 3D experience, but this was definitely a more subtle approach. Although the film wasn't what I expected (like others I thought it was going to be more fantasy), I enjoyed the story, characters and the film history lesson.

This movie captures more than your imagination. I have never seen 3D used more effectively, you can tell the movie has been done by the masters of film making. Each character is well cast, sympathetic and offers a look into how we each feel at any time. The time frame is perfect and while often the situation presented is exaggerated in other films, in HUGO everything is believable, down to the slightest detail. It is heart warming with enough humor to keep you happy and angst to make you cry. It is a must see.

This film is full of surprises. First of all, I wouldn't say you SHOULD go see it, because I think you absolutely MUST go see it! It's the best thing out there. This movie already had good reviews, but I had to see for myself. It was a great story! At times it seemed a little slow...my teenager fell asleep (typical), although my nine year old was awake the whole time. It had some real awesome 3D points to it...but the story overall was the best part.

Honestly I was thinking it wasn't going to be a good movie. But as the movie went on I started to like it more and more-the characters, the plot, the mystery, and even a little history. The acting was good-better than what I thought it was going to be-again. I thought Hugo was going to be a snotty little kid but I grew to like him and he did a great job acting and playing his part. It might have started out a little slow but it just kept on getting better and better. Overall a really good movie. Go and see it I wish it would have had a better box office number when I got home but it didn't have a huge one-5th place. So I'm telling you go see it. It is a good movie.

It wasn't what I expected, based on the previews it looked more like a fantasy type film. But it was still very enjoyable with just the right amount of ups and downs.

This is one of the best movies of the year. It is subtle with undertones of growing up. It is a review of the silent moives, as only Scorsese could accomplish. This is not a movie for children under ten years old. But sit back and take a ride of times long past.

I go to see a Scorsese film because it IS a Scorsese film. He is one of the true filmmakers in our lifetime that DOES deliver the essence of every component, creative and necessary to the craft of filmmaking. HUGO is nothing short of genius... a great layered story with impeccable visuals, sound, editing, perfect casting, location, and magical beauty that all ages can enjoy. The history of film is now embedded forever in one of our own generational films and that is a true gift. And FYI, every child in our audience was as mesmerized and awestruck as the adults. It is sophisticated and playful and ageless. Thank you Mr. Scorsese.
